Hi all,

I just got a new kitten of 10 weeks about half a week ago. He vomitted and had diarrhoea yesterday morning (prob due to overeating), didn't eat/drink or pee/poo the whole day, as well as being lethargic. I took him to the vets and they gave a broad spectrum antibiotic in case it was a stomach bug, as well as some electrolytes in powder form to mix with his water. The vet also recommended to give bland food such as cooked chicken.

Right after we got back, he ate a bit of his wet food and dry that was out previously. He didn't touch the chicken just yet. His energy came back towards the end of the night and so did his appetite!

Today, he has peed several times (I'm thinking due to the electrolyte water) and has been really hungry all day. I've given him small pieces of chicken (shredded) every couple hours and yet he keeps crying for more food. He however hasn't pooped since that diarrhoea yesterday morning so it's been almost 2 days now.

He's very active again like a normal kitten and everything only that he hasn't pooped. His stomach does feel full and he just wants to eat more and more! I don't know what to do cause he seems really hungry all the time but I don't wanna keep giving him as he hasn't passed anything for almost 2 Days! Help!

I would continue to feed him as much as he wants.  Since he didn't eat at all yesterday it's logical that he wouldn't have pooped then. If he still hasn't pooped tomorrow morning I'd suggest calling your vet and asking them whether they think you should be concerned. They should be able to talk to you about this over the phone.

Glad he seems to be doing better!

I agree, the diarrhea cleaned out his colon so it's not unusual to go several days without a bowel movement. At 10 weeks, up until about a year, he should eat as much as he wants, they are growing at a tremendous pace and exert a LOT of energy just being a kitten.Really encourage him to drink water, he's most likely dehydrated and it will prevent him from getting constipated too. Cats normally don't over eat like dogs, so his weight shouldn't be a problem until he's older and doesn't move around as much. Since cats usually stop eating when they are hurt or sick, a little extra padding doesn't hurt, just in case! Go by what vet advises, they have seen a lot of cats.

Thanks for the advice! However I forgot to mention that the vet also checked his stomach and said its a bit liquidy inside and that I should expect more diarrhoea. Not having seen anything yet makes me worried :/

His stomach is also quite 'fat' at the moment as well, don't know if it's just from eating a lot today or not passing anything and it's all clogged up?

So the past days have been good, eating heaps and very active.

However he's been getting soft stool (not fully liquid) again, and peeing normally. Today he's lost his appetite and not his usual self again :/ he did have another soft stool this morning.

I'm feeding him fancy feast kitten turkey and RC/Purina supercoat (transitioning) dry at the moment and can't figure out why one day he's good and the next he's lethargic :/
