My 11 year old Sesame was just diagnosed with IBD, after several weeks and $1000 in tests thinking he had lymphoma.  The vet says we need to put him back on steroids (he was on pred for years because of asthma, which he eventually outgrew), and change his diet.  Since we have three cats, all with different needs, and two very busy work schedules, we typically end up doing free-feeding with dry food, all the same for all the cats.

So, my question is this:

Being fully aware that wet food and raw food are better and yes I know in a perfect world that would be happening, what kind of dry food would you recommend? The vet said that the food should be:

1) Grain-free

2) Limited Ingredient

3) have only Duck, Rabbit, or Venison

She doesn't want him on Chicken, Turkey, Salmon, Tuna, etc, as he's had all those and she wants to make sure whatever we're feeding him is completely new.  She recommended a prescription one, but it was $63 for 8lbs and my cats will blow through that in no time.

I had a similar situation a few years ago with my cat. I used a novel protein from Royal Canin (my cat would only eat dry food so used kibble). I just googled it and as you mentioned its about $60 for 8 pounds. I separated or supervised my cats when I fed them (twice a day) and did not free feed so only my cat who needed the prescription food ate it. My cat did well on the food for a few years (he was also on a low dose of a steroid). Good luck with your kitty.

Ziwipeak air dried.

You could look at Orijen regional red, but it might have chicken in it too I'm not sure. It's mostly red meat based. I have an IBD cat that eats some kibble because he's stubborn and sometimes protests his raw food for kibble. I mix Ziwipeak with Orijen.

Thank you all for your your suggestions.   We went to the Pet Supplies Plus, which is the pet store near us that has the biggest selection of "specialty" cat foods.  The ONLY two we could find that had only rabbit, duck, or venison were Blue Basic LID Duck and Potato, and Natural Balance Green Pea and Duck.   We bought the smallest bag of both to see how the cats feel.  I put down a small amount of Blue Basic and they went nuts for it.  I checked the litter boxes this morning and there weren't any issues so far, so we're going to continue with this one for awhile and see how it goes.  I'm not thrilled with the ingredients, but if it helps Sesame gain weight, Louie lose weight, and Bunny not have ulcers under her lips, I'll take it.
