Good Morning!
And Happy Friday!
What will you be doing for Super Bowl Sunday? Will you watch the game? Will you make anything special (wings, any dip, margaritas!!)?
I don't watch football at all. However, Dear Richard is an avid football fan and he will be glued to the tv on Sunday night. I always try to make something a little special; we usually don't eat dinner per se, but I'll make an assortment of appetizers with a dip or two. We may make a batch of Louisville Wings on the outside grill, depending on the weather. A couple of Rick's buddies said they'd stop in and watch the game, too. DS is thinking about coming up in the afternoon with our DGS and staying til halftime, so I'll have some hungry guys on my hands.
I saw a recipe in the local newspaper for something called Smothered, Shredded, Stinky BBQ. It uses both pork and beef, with soy sauce, pilsner beer, bay leaves, rosemary, etc. Brown sugar, garlic cloves, chopped onion. It sounds kind of interesting and I was thinking of trying it. I have everything but the beer. I have a pork shoulder and I have a london broil that I could get out of the freezer when I get home tonight. You cook it in the oven (I'd do that tomorrow), then shred the meat. Put it in the crock pot Sunday morning and let it reheat. Serve on crusty buns. Figured we could put the leftovers in the freezer.
So if we do that, I'm thinking of just slicing a few veggies (some fresh peppers, carrots, etc) and making some of Ina's Onion Dip. Rick has specifically asked me to make that Rotel/Velveeta Queso dip....heavens, he loves that stuff. We'll grab a bag of tortilla chips. I'm going to make a big pan of chocolate and peanut butter marbled brownies (largely for DS, who just loves those brownies).
Rick will watch the game; I'll either hang out on the computer or grab my Nook and go back to the bedroom and watch something else (probably with the bedroom door shut for peace and quiet!) If DGS does come along, he and I can play some board games in the kitchen, although he is turning into quite the football fan, too.
