Naïve cat Mom moment for me again! Nala Ava Marie was play biting, getting pretty close on the verge of real biting! Well, I look on the white part of her fur and see a little red. I'm wearing a red shirt so I thought it may be lint. No, it was one of her teeth!!! Is this normal? Do kittens lose their baby teeth? Will she lose more? Is it gross that I put the tooth in a plastic Ziplock bag to keep in her baby book? [emoji]128570[/emoji]

Yes, kittens do lose their baby teeth, so nothing to worry about!   She will have grown in all her adult teeth by around 6 months I think.

Hi, Kittens lose their baby teeth and the adult ones grow on through at the same time. I looked in my cat's mouth one day and she had 2 sets of teeth! Of course I took to the internet and it turns out they are meant to do that so that they can still eat properly. Normally you wouldn't see the baby teeth fall out as they fall out when the cat is eating and get swallowed.

It's worth noting occasionally the cat will not lose a baby tooth naturally and it may need to be removed by the vet, but it's not too much of a worry until the kitten is about 4-5 months old. Of course if there are any visual signs of a problem such as red and swollen gum lines or absolutely terrible breath, trouble eating then a dental check up is in need just in case. To help your kitten to teeth there are dental treats available :)

Also no, my mother in law's puppy lost her first baby tooth at christmas and we kept it. AAWWW

I have one of Tumbles' baby teeth in a keepsake jar with a bunch of whiskers from my kitties.  So, keeping the tooth isn't weird.  They lose them around 5-6 mos of age.

That's sweet you guys kept the baby teeth

I could never find any baby teeth - and I've had 2 cats from the moment of their birth!  Must be a pile of baby teeth under the couches somewhere

Baby teeth are usually swallowed.  I don't even remember how I found this tooth.

I've never seen a rogue whisker! I've got plenty of fur floating around though wooden floors and hairy pets aren't a good combo with a £30 vaccum!

Nala Ava Marie is 5 months and 4 days old so she is that prime age for losing her baby teeth. I'm glad it's normal. I give her those Greenie's dental treats once a day to "brush" her teeth. She eats Freshpet food, it's not wet-wet food but it's not dry food. It's like little chunks of meat. She loves it. I'm going to make a baby book keepsake for her. Wait, she'll lose whiskers too? [emoji]128570[/emoji] I'll keep my eyes open for those too! So far, so good on her not shedding too!
