My hubby and I were pulling up to our driveway 3 weeks ago and hit Our beloved 18 year old cat. We were devastated :( still heartbroken. His name was Oglum. He was at the vets for 3 weeks and yesterday we were called to the vets and she told us he is still unable to pee and poop on his own and that the extensive nerve damage to his spine is taking its toll. We didn't want to put him through any more pain and suffering so after 18 years of loving our beautiful boy, we had to say goodbye. The vet told us that his quality of life would be miserable and the long term outlook didn't look good. I'm conflicted coz I keep thinking maybe we could've taken him to a specialist for surgery etc but Vet had told us his nerve damage was too severe. Poor boy :( we are grieving so badly. He was getting old and deaf etc and he just ran in front of the car. I'm shattered with grief. Just wanted to share this. He looked like he was in pain. He wasn't eating. The vet said his anal canal and bowels were just not working. Has anyone had a similar experience with bad nerve damage in cats. RIP Oglum old boy. He will live forever in our hearts [emoji]128148[/emoji][emoji]128148[/emoji][emoji]10084[/emoji]️

How so very sad,and you must feel guilty. Don't- it could happen to anyone. You did the best you could for Oglum, but there was just too much damage. You will always have your memories.

What happened was a horrible accident, you had no idea this would happen  and dear Oglum was in the wrong place at the wrong time. My heart goes out to you, I know the pain of such horrible accidents and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. You couldn't let your boy suffer, especially if the prognosis was so poor. You did what you could and you know he would never want to live his remaining days in such pain and suffering. That he lived 18 years is a testament to your love and care, you spent those years happy and full of love, don't let such a tragic end mar what you shared, he would never want you to be so sad. He will spend the rest of your life residing in your heart, the bond you shared is something that can never be taken from you. Fill your heart with sunshine and happiness once again, not darkness and pain over something that you had no control over. We would all change what happened in a minute, but we cannot change the past and now must live in the present. Know you are not alone in your grief, I reach out to you and will share your sorrow over the loss of such a beautiful soul, take care.........RIP sweet Oglum, you know you are loved so very much and will never be forgotten, you will reside forever more in loving hearts!

I hope your hearts heal quickly. How wonderful to have the love of a cat for 18 years. That in itself is a testimony to how much you loved him.

I'm so very sorry to hear your story! It was an accident that could happen to any of us, and what a wonderful life you gave Oglum for 18 years - so much more happiness than many pussycats get. And you did the right thing by him at the end - the hardest thing to do, I know. My heart goes out to you.

I am truly sorry for your loss.
As others have said, it was a tragic accident. You would never intentionally hurt your kitty. You loved him for 18 years and gave him a wonderful life. He loved you in return and would never want you to blame yourself. I wish I had some magic words to take away your pain. I can only hope that one day you will think of your sweet kitty with more smiles than tears.
RIP Sweet Oglum!
You were so deeply loved and will always be missed!

So very sorry for your loss. We just lost our Tony on Jan. 18 so I can empathize with what you are feeling. You did everything you could for him and take comfort in the fact that he is no longer in pain. May he rest in peace and enjoy the company of our Rainbow angels at Rainbow Bridge.
