We have four cats ranging in age from 1 and a half to 16 years old.  Two girls and two boys.  About two days ago the 13 year male does not want to leave the bed room.  Is not hiding.  But stays on the bed.  Normally he would spend some time on the bed but would also be in the living room and kitchen.   He is eating and drinking.  He will leave the bed room briefly to eat and drink then rushes back to the bedroom.  His coat is shiny and he grooms himself.  Appears healthy.  I think something scared him or he got in an altercation with one of the other cats.  Any ideas on this?  Thanks.

I can only interpret this to mean that your cat is suffering from withdrawal syndrome. May be he feels anxious about something or he is sick. You should ask your vet to run some tests.

Particularly with an older cat, my first instinct would be to get him checked by a vet. You need to be sure there isn't a physical cause for this change.

Provided everything checks out, I'd try playing with him using a wand toy (Da Bird is a firm favourite with many cats here). Interactive play (followed by a meaty treat) is a wonderful confidence builder, and should help him reclaim territory in the rest of the house.

Keep an eye on all the cats' interactions too - you might well get some clues as to what's going on between them all. It's perfectly possible the youngest cat is trying to assume a more dominant position - (s)he's definitely at the age for challenging authority ;)

I hope your boy is ok :vibes:

If this was my pussycat, I would watch his behaviour closely and if it continues for more than a couple of days, take him to the vet. Cats are experts in hiding pain and you really want to make sure there's no underlying reason for his new behaviour.

It's always tricky to know when something is vet-worthy, though, isn't it? With cats sleeping so much, you don't know whether something is wrong or they've just had an extra active night of adventuring!

Took cat to Vet yesterday.  Had complete exam including blood test.  Lost weight since last visit too Vet a month ago.  Doctor thought he had hyperthyroidism.  Don't know if I spelled that right.  All of the blood work came back negative.  She is not sure yet of what the  problem is.  Been with this pet clinic for years.   Very positive results on taking care of my pets.

Still, only comes out of the bedroom to use the litter box and drink water.  We feed him in the bedroom on the bed.  We are very concerned about him.

Hmm, is the vet doing more tests? How does she intend to get to the bottom of the problem? Good on you for taking action - hang in there until you discover the problem - then you can treat it! :-)
