Hello!
Thank you so much for asking and my apologies for not getting back.. KoKo is doing so wonderful! She had her 2 week post op today.. The first four nights were so heartbreaking, as she just cried, howling loud distressed crying all throughout the night.. I was constantly by her side - (which the extra large playpen) - did everything that you and all had advised.. Even our vet has really kept up with her day to day progress.. Honestly it has been the biggest challenge in my life to take on the responsibilities of KoKo.. However, she is the HAPPIEST little baby ever, and even these last weeks, into prior months were so so harsh on her, and even myself, I wouldn't trade it for anything..
I thought I would ask, she has been very comfy recovering in her playpen, however she is really wanting to come out.. Our vet said she's fine to come out and start roaming the house.. I wanted to ask you here too? Is it alright to open her playpen up?
I have 100% family support now, and KoKo has become very trusting of all of us... There are 3 adults in a 2 bedroom, but it is peaceful and KoKo allows us to pet her now! But, only if she lets us at her discretion lol but that's nothing new to cat owners! :D
I am not certain how to go about this procedure of letting her out of her recovery playpen? Shes indoor ONLY, vaccinated, microchipped just in case also..
As for letting her out of her pen, how do I go about this? Is it truly safe? Im worried because of my poor education with her beginning..
Our house is fairly big, but has much much items.. I've kinda kitty proofed the place but thought to ask about this.. I found out that she's only a year old, our vet designated her their Valentine baby and put her DOB as 2-14-15..

What wonderful news!  So happy you stayed with her and brought her through this.

Is the playpen in a room?  Perhaps you can let her out into the room for short periods.  I would stay in the room with her.  Make sure there aren't places for her to hide that you can't get to her (under bureaus and beds, for instance).  Once she's used to the room, she can be introduced to the rest of the house.

She is a cutie!

You are doing so well with her!  Yes, I do think you can let her out of the pen for short visits.  If you have any baby gates you could use that would help to make the space smaller.  Just choose a space that is cat proofed and not too big.  You can gradually increase her limits as time goes by. A good idea is to get on the floor at the cats level and see what small spaces you could squeeze into if you were a cat.  Then block all those areas off.

She is just a beautiful kitty.  So glad everyone is able to pet her.

When I first allowed my feral time out of his room, I was very very careful about all doors leading to the outside.  I had gates by all of them.

Thank so much for the update.  I hope Koko continues to improve.

She is a darling little girl. So glad to hear the family is all on board now. I don't think you could achieve success with out that being the case. You are a wonderful cat momma!!! Good job.

Good morning from SoCali..

Just wanted to share some wonderful updated details with KoKo..

FIRST, again thank you so so very much to the treasured advisers here on The Cat Site, for all of your help, encouragement and guidance... I am so so soooooooooooooo very, very, very happy to post KoKo's update this morning... :D

She is just recovering and settling into her new home and environment ever so incredibly..

It is overwhelming to think of her situation a few months ago, as I had really lost much inner hope for her.. From building her the outside shelter in 20/30 degree weather, and caring for her and the other colony cats, to the very day, it is so rewarding... I cannot believe the wonderful progress with her.. KoKo is 100% adjusted... (My colony is super too, I have TNR'd now all 6 cats and they are all wonderful!!) I chose KoKo to be indoors first as it seemed she was going to be my greatest challenge.. My other colony babies are very friendly and I have now enclosed the car port and have them secluded from wild predatory animals..

KoKo is absolutely my breath of fresh air,.. Our families dedication has really shown.. She is the sweetest and most lovable baby ever.. <3 I am just elated with the love of and for her.. OUR FAMILY, <3

She is now becoming a lap kitty, so hard to believe but she is so chatty, very very smart, she follows me around, lays and sleeps on my chest, cuddles, kneads, meows and talks, she is incredibly playful, rolling around everywhere, sleeps upside down, so curious about everything, adorable when it is her feeding time, she does a very cute little dance of sorts when it is time to eat and throughout her day with cat treats here and there.. She is very routine, adheres to the No-No's she is learning IE: No jumping onto the stove, or cat crawling on the curtains...

My 2 family members have absolutely fallen in complete love with her... She has kitty toys and condo scratcher's, and she meows for one of us to come play, which we all do lol and she sings to us and plays ever so cute!!

The singing is beautiful, as it is such a loving and soft sweet series of meow's.. This action of meowing on her part then begins  leading into many minutes of chorus-like singing.. I had not known that Tortie-Siamese were so vocal... (DID I GET THIS CORRECT?)

She is so much fun to watch and play with... Our vet has really kept his eye on her recovery as well, and praised the incredible progress..  I have yet to try and pick her up, as I do not want to even attempt any fear that she may misunderstand.. She loves her attention and ironically I had thought that the big door would be a problem with her... NOT IN THE LEAST... I have watched KoKo look outside of that particular door and she wants nothing to do with it..

I have her set up with drawn curtains and kitty beds on her perched window sills and she is enjoying this very much..

Today is only day #3 of venturing out of her playpen... INSTANT HAPPINESS AND GRATITUDE IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN TRY AND DESCRIBE HER FEELINGS..

It is so touching to have and watch such a complete turnaround with her... I must admit that I had my doubts, but because of your online guidance and encouragement, the rewards are more than I can express!! KOKO'S HAPPINESS IS FANTASTIC!! I am so appreciative to all of you!!! I am looking forward to a beautiful, loving and healthy long life with baby KoKo.... <3 SHE IS MY ENTIRE HEART... <3

With love and much much sincerity,

LinandNin & KoKo <3

This is all such good news!  I am so happy that Koko is adjusting so well.  She she such a tiny little girl and such a beauty too.  She is so fortunate to have found you.  She knows a good thing and hopefully will never try to get outside.

Wow!  TNR on 6 others.  You have been very busy.  I would love to see pictures of your group as well as the enclosed carport.  I have a shelter on my deck for my 3 TNR's feral boys.  I am Ohio so we have really cold winters.  They all do pretty well with 2 heated houses and heat pads.

My one former feral that I brought inside has never shown one bit of interest in going back outside.  He loves to watch from the window, but even when the door has been left ajar for a few moments, he runs the other way!

I love reading your updates on Koko.  It won't be long before she is fully adjusted.  You are to be commended for all of your excellent care of her.

Good morning..

It has been quite awhile since I have noted any updates here about KoKo.. Just to back track, I had been tagged in my home for the colony care.. I was really extremely upset and went to read as much as possible - Shadows Rescue (in particular) since I was in such a terrible position.. I had 30 days to re-home my outsider babies, or bring them in.. While reading so much about your experiences and how you had to handle your own moods, I was very optimistic with re-homing my 6 babies.. Not only did I get them excellent homes, but I am allowed to see them with a 1 to 2 day notice, and some of the time with no notice at all.. All 6 babies went to 1 wonderful angel care giver who has experience with cat colony feral cats.. I am so thankful that I had done the TNR with them as I was able to supervise their full recovery and they all just did so so so very well.. It has been such an emotional experience for me, as I certainly do miss them.. Taking my colony and fort down was really difficult as I have found myself seeking a need to care for the unwanted babies out there.. As of now, there aren't any strays and or feral babies that I have seen now in the 2nd week of being watched here by management..

I have a few photos of my re-homed furry kids, and I must say that I am extremely appreciative for the incredible knowledge that all of the advisers have posted, all of the links, information well beyond any of my expectations.. ALL OF YOU ARE THEIR ANGELS AND I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH BECAUSE OF YOUR TAKING SUCH TIME TO CREATE SITES AND INSTRUCTIONS, GUIDANCE, ENCOURAGEMENT AND SO MUCH MORE..

KoKo is just a completely different baby today.. She is just so active, playful, curious, talkative, and what a treasured companion for me.. She follows me everywhere, sits in my lap, talks to me for minutes at a time, enjoys our routine playtime and has completely recovered as an indoor baby..

I am so very happy to have her here to share her life together with me and my family.. She is our newest and most delicate, loving member of our family.. KoKo is radiating love, comfort, joy, peace, and just the most incredibly cute personality.. I feel rewarded with having her so happy..

HAVE A SPLENDID DAY EVERYONE, THANK YOU KINDLY AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE ADVISORS AND MESSAGES AND COMMENTS... YOU HAVE HELPED ME TO SAVE 7 LIVES............. <3

Most Sincerely, <3

LinadNin & KoKo Beans =^*.*^=

KOKO IS MY MOST TREASURED FAMILY MEMBER.. SHE IS SO SPECIAL TO ME, I LOVE THE TRANSFORMATION.. SHE WILL FOREVER BE A BEAUTIFUL PART OF MY LIFE..

TYSVM <3

How difficult it must have been for you!  But I am so happy (and proud of you!) for your hard work finding homes for the outside guys.

Hearing about Koko's journey has been wonderful too.  Thank you so much for the update!
