Hello Everyone! My cat had her babies a week ago. She had them on jan. 25th. My husband an i left to go out of state on the 27th and returned home late on the 31st. Today is the 2nd of feb. Yesterday i noticed that one of the kittens has a stuffy nose and is sneezing and breathing out of her mouth. I feel awful because she seems so miserable. I won't have the money to take her to the vet until the 15th. Is there any thing that i can do to try and help her at home? Will the other kitties be ok or could they get it from her? I don't know much about kittens. My husband and i just moved in oct and the people who lived here before us left their 2 cats (Outside cats) they were going to come back and get them but called and said if we wanted to keep them we could. Well the female came up pregnant. I have brought her in the house and she has adapted very well. uses the litter box and all that. The male is still outside because he isn't neutered and sprays everywhere. As soon as the kittens are weaned I will have enough saved up to have the female and the male spayed and neutered. But back to my question. Im really worried about the kitty. I feel so bad for her. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

The kitten should see a vet.  It may need antibiotics and could pass this cold (URI) to the others.  Is there a vet in the area where the first visit is free?

It does sound like an upper respiratory infection (URI), as Handsome Kitty mentioned. She is probably contagious. You can set up a vaporizer. You can also take the kitten into a steamy bathroom for a few minutes to see if the steam helps open the nasal passages. The kitten needs to see a vet for antibiotics. Can you open a Care Credit card or borrow money or ask the vet for a payment plan? Two weeks is a long time.

Are you feeding the male cat outside? He needs to be neutered as soon as you can do it. It was very irresponsible of the owners to leave their cats behind. You are wonderful to take care of them, as I'm sure they are accustomed to being fed on a regular basis.

Local Humane Societies offer low-cost spays and neuters. The tom can be neutered anytime, and the mom not until the kittens are 8 weeks old. The tom's behavior will improve after neutering. He's probably the dad. You may have other organizations in the area that offer low-cost options as well if you conduct an internet search.

Thank you. No there are no vets that offer a free first visit. I live in a small town without a vet and have to drive about45 minutes to the nearest vet. Yes I feed the tom cat every day. He has a nice little set up in our detached garage. I'm gonna talk to my mother when she comes to visit if I can borrow the money to take her.

That's a good idea to ask your mother. It sounds like tom is well-cared for!
