About 2 mos ago my male cat Jack had a urinary blockage and was put on RC SO food. He is not eating as much as he should and I have tried several things like sprinkling various 'treats' on top and not much has helped. Recently I have started mixing a little Fancy Feast in with it.

I get worried I am doing the wrong thing but he has already lost some weight. He does need to lose about 4 lbs though. I just want him to eat close to what he should be eating each day but not take him off the urinary food.

Is the Fancy Feast going to make a difference in his urinary condition? I guess I mean keeping the ph balanced to prevent crystals etc.

This is something you will need to discuss with your vet.  Sometimes the vet will have you tried a different brand ( such as Science diet prescription).  You should ask your vet what particular ingredients you are to avoid.

I have a dog on RC SO.  She used to be on Science diet.  Fortunately she eats pretty much anything.  The problem is she is a large dog and the RC SO is so very low in protein.  We were able to find a food to supplement once daily  that meets the criteria for her issue.  I worked closely with my vet to come up with a solution.

I would not be adding any other cat food to his diet without speaking to your vet first.

I am adding just a small amount. Maybe not about 1/2 tsp when I feed him. I really don't have a lot of confidence in my vet's knowledge of cats. I believe he took good care of him while he stayed there 6 days but I felt I should have got to talk to him when I went to pick up Jack. I should have received more advice for at home and future care. He deals with a lot of large animals too. So sometimes those kinds of vets aren't as knowledgeable about small animals.

He did try the Science diet but didn't eat it as well as he was eating the Royal Canin. Unfortunately for me going to another Vet for a second follow up visit is financially not a good idea for me now. I wish I had a vet that was more 'geared' towards cats.
