I live in rural New Mexico and I hate to say it but the veterinarian  medical care is not the best here.  I found a kitten about 3months old a few weeks ago and even though I haven't had him long I've became really attached to the little guy he gives me so much joy.  About 2 days ago I noticed he wasn't himself. He has been lethargic, not eating and vomiting so I took him to the vet today and had x-rays done and they said they did not see any thing.  They told me they could do a enterotomy if I wanted but didnt explain much.  I do not want to have my kitten go under surgery unnecessarily also the quote was quite costly for me I am a college student . I have the xrays attached thank you so much for any help

I don't know if we have any actual veterinarians among our members, so you may not get any more insight into the x-rays than you have already. (Fingers crossed
that you do.)    I am wondering, however, if the vet did any blood work?  Also, did (s)he say anything about your little guy's failure to eat?  That really should be addressed right away.  Otherwise he might come down with heaptic lipidosis, or fatty liver, which is a potentially fatal liver disorder.

To encourage him to eat, try warming up his food and seeing if he finds it more enticing - warming brings out the aroma.  Also, try tuna, or chicken or turkey baby food (without garlic or onion.)  Many cats can not resist these foods.  You could even try warm goats milk or KMR (powdered form) since he still is a kitten.  Anything to get some calories into him.  If none of these work, you will have to feed him with a needless syringe (available from pharmacies) until you can get him back to the vet.

The problem is that when cats stop eating, that often becomes more of an emergency than the underlying medical issue that causes them to lose their appetite in the first place.  The articles below will shed some light on this.

I know I haven't begun to address the underlying issue that is making your kitten sick but perhaps other members will have more ideas.  I do think if you're not happy with this vet, you should consider trying another one, unless that's not an option.  (I see you're in a rural area).

Best of luck to you.

I hope your kitten recovers. I live in rural NM. Made the mistake of using a rural vet. The cost of going to Albuquerque was not that much more and we'd probably still have our cat today. We thought she seemed qualified and didn't want to stress our cat our more by the trip. Never again. Rural NM is not cat friendly.

What about a fecal?  My cat Atticus had a heavy burden of roundworms when he was a kitten and stopped eating.  He also threw up.  Once the parasites were treated he was back to his old self again.

This was my first thought. Have you wormed him properly? Sometimes it can take two or three doses, two/three weeks apart, to clear a kitten of a serious worm infestation. But make sure you get them from a reputable source - not a grocery or pet store. Go to a vet or at least a pharmacy.
