So we recently took in a stray kitten a few days ago and she eats (well sorta) So we've been taking dry cat food and letting it soak in water which she will sometimes eat it. However she acts like she's starving whenever me and my family sit down to eat our food and she's on us 24/7. Is this because she was a stray? She's still quite playful with us and our other cats daily. But I don't know about her eating behavior.[

Now, the answer depends on several variations.  One is, kittens naturally do eats quite a lot. They are both growing and playing much, running around, etc.

Second, its as you guess: strays are often severe on eating; they had learned the hard way food may be scarce, and its important to eat when you can.  Alike seasoned soldiers by the way!   It usually goes better with time, when they learn there is always food accessible, if not immediately so just after a short while.

Third, them begging from humans isnt that unusual.   Its not totally bad, it may be wise she gets used to eat different foods.

Btw, being homeless she probably GOT human food lefteover from friendly passersby, or even found them in garbage.   So for her, human food is food too...

So her own food, give is quite often, and more than you would give to an adult.

Next a question; soaking dry food is an useful trick in some variations, but why are YOU doing it? doenst she eats normal dry food  (kitten or active cat - type?)

Could you give her canned wet food?   Canned wet ir prob the best to give as her base food, in the long run. With some dry as in between snacks.

We started to do it because it seems she has a hard time eating dry

Ok, you can surely proceed, but better you learn her to eat usual wet food.

Its almost always of better quality than dry food, as its much easier to make a decent wet food than a very good dry food.

For example, you dont need to put in any carbohydrates just to keep the dry food together.

She should be eating a lot of cat food every day because she's a young kitten - as much kitten food as she wants, really.

It sounds to me like she's hungry because she doesn't like the food you're feeding so much. Can you try other options? Wet food in particular.

Fancy Feast Classic is a good choice. The first ingredient is meat, so it has lots of protein, which your stray needs. You can also offer cooked chicken, scrambled egg, plain rice, etc. from your own kitchen.
