I have to wait till tomorrow to get this cat to the vet. It looks like another cat bit his left front leg. A piece of his flesh is gone. I do not have a car so in the morning a friend is bringing me to the animal hospital about 5 miles from here. I am crying so much. He got out when I was bringing food out to the feral cats

Aw, I'm sorry.
There's not much worse than not being able to get to the vet when we have a sick or injured cat.  At least Tiger has you there to take care of him.  I hope everything goes well at the vet and that Tiger is soon back to his old self.

Well he is certainly a handsome boy! So is your lovely calico girl!

He must be neutered asap. This is why when he escapes he will get in to fights and be attacked, as there are clearly other males who are not fixed.

Let me tell you, it is SO dangerous to have an unneutered male cat, danger is for him. Males who are not fixed fight with the intent to kill, not that they can kill another male but with that intent they can and WILL do great bodily harm.

They go for the eyes, the face, the bites ALWAYS abcess, which is an infection that is painful and awful, then the fluid will finally burst a hole so it can drain out, and it will happen again and again.

It's nearly impossible to keep an unfixed cat inside.

The other dangers are spreading fiv and felv through those bites.

Unfixed males are the biggest contributor of these 2 big diseases.

Please get him neutered asap.

He will be alright until he can see the vet.

Tiger is fixed, has all his shots, and is flea + tick free. I spay + neuter all my cats. You see he was feral/stray. I tamed him. He is VERY loving but his nature is to roam. Around here that is not good. I am trying hard to make him an indoor cat.

Thank-you for your caring and concerning comments. I am truly crying.

Honey don't cry, he's going to be fine.

So glad that he is fixed, but you've got some very territorial males out there who still go after other males despite being neutered, so I would really try to keep his little butt inside, or perhaps finding a local rescue who can help get the cats outside ficxed, that is really the best way to go.

Other poor cats are needing help, I love them all, it's not their fault of course, so it's sad, if they had a loving safe home with responsible people as you are to care for them their lives would be so much better.

It's a very tough life to be homeless and not fixed.

I had a female cat that was fixed. Took her in as a stray and she still felt the need to roam. She was a very dominate cat and would attack any other cat on sight but the most gentle and loving to people.. Took a while to get her to accept in-door only. She got attacked by a blue jay and the bird surprisingly made a hole just smaller than a quarter about an inch from the base of her tail. I has frantic and sad and all. Kind of how you feel and I was on the phone making an appt. with the local vet and just about that time she walks across the street to neighbors porch furniture where she surgically cleaned the wound. Once I realized what she was doing I walked over after she was done and there was a nasty mess. I thought now it is really bad so called vet back and explained. I got her in that day but they said they wouldn't do anything cause the cat did a good job cleaning and keeping it clean. Just advised us to keep her in a few weeks to let it heal and 3 days later she had it cleaned so good it scabbed and stopped seeping.

So long story short the cat may take the initiative to clean and keep it clean but MUST keep him in. If it bubbles the cat might pop it and clean it out. that will be a mess so might want to limit where he goes until it dries and scabs. But he should be fine. Cats are tough. Watch him and if he is fine then fine. If he needs help he will tell you.

Tiger is a handsome fellow. I adopted severer ferals an brought them inside. Most of them fought for the longest time to get outside. Several of them were bit in the legs and they always became infected. I always had to take them to the vet to be treated. My Tiger even lost his left eye from a fight with an outside feral. Baxter and Roger also got FeLv from being bitten. You are doing a wonderful job with your two cats. Keep up the good work.

Well I posted yesterday Tiger got hurt after he got outside. He was in a cat fight for sure. He had to be opened up and two partial cat claw tips were embedded in his leg. They got removed. He had a complete exam. The vet dropped a metal thing on the floor. The assistant, another cat in a cage, & the cleaning lady reacted. Tiger barely moved. Dr decided to test his hearing. Some tones he reacted and others nothing. Very low noise he had no reaction. Louder noise he reacted. Doctor checked his ears good. He said Tiger is not deaf completely but some sounds and tones he cannot hear and low noises he cannot hear.

If he cant hear well you cant let him out. He will be at major risk. He seems very content inside. And good you got him checked. My previous advice (of letting cat clean and take care of wound) might have lead to an infection with claw pieces still imbedded. Glad all is well. Good luck.

He sure is cute! Look at his back bunny paws!

Anyway, all is well, that's just great.

As for his hearing/lack of, this is a pretty big red flag that he mustn't get a way outside, dogs attacking, other cats coming his way, and so on.

Good job! Great kitty mom.

Thank-you very much. He is a FOREVER house cat now. The vet explained to me a lot. This cat was starting to turn feral when I first started to feed him outside. It took awhile but I got him to trust me. He never came when I called and other cats seemed to pick on him. That's when I took him in.
