I'd love 8 hours sleep but it won't happen. It can take me a long time to go to sleep or I can drop off easily. I can wake up at 3-4am and it'll take me a couple of hours to fall asleep again, if I do. I sometimes nod off in my TV chair. That's usually a lovely sleep. So I have no idea how long I sleep at night.

I sleep in batches - two hours here, two hours there.  Eventually it adds up to about 7 - 8 hours over the course of about 11 or 12.  The only reason I can do this is because I'm now retired.  When I worked, I'd often have to manage on 4 hours and it was never enough.
ahhh, yes! being retired is very nice like that!

I would love to be able to sleep at least 7-8 hours straight!

As it is now..my best sleep is in the recliner for a couple hours. When I get to bed, I toss and turn all night long...

And then, the love/hate relationship of Artie lying on top of me, or me feeling suffocated by his fur, or being held in a straight jacket because he is right up against me......

I also toss and turn a lot....I guess I have never been a good sleeper.. If I get one good nights sleep a week, I am lucky...

I think the most I do sleep is like and hour at a time, up for a a bit, sleep and them up, then sleep.....I also get pain my shoulder, hips, and back....mattress is still good...it is just me getting old and arthritic....almost ready to try tylenol PM or advil PM (which I should not take any NSAIDS)

long story, but I am tired...did not sleep well last night, plus I am nose stuffy and cranky...
i hope you feel better soon!

Generally speaking, I sleep about seven hours a night. That is usually with getting up one time. I don't have trouble falling asleep again. Once in awhile, I crash and sleep 8 to 9 hours. That is so seldom it scares my husband and he opens the door to check on me.

I always try to sleep long enough to smell coffee brewing.
ahhh, i like that idea!

I never seem to get enough sleep. I think I spend 8 hours in bed every night, but I'm a really light sleeper. I wake up at the slightest little noise and my brain has a habit of rousing me from the deepest slumber with thoughts like "Hey, did you pay the gas bill yet? Because I think it's due tomorrow."

when i was younger my brain would want to keep going, making it very hard for me to get to sleep. so i'd picture in my mind 'nothing', absolutely nothing which was for me solid black. not like the night sky with stars, just black, nothing. doing that and focusing on it helped me to fall asleep.

i tend to be a light sleeper too. but these days by the time i get to bed, i'm usually out like a light pretty quickly.

I also would love to pass out at 10pm and wake up at 6am... but sometimes it's 11, and sometimes 9:30 (which usually means getting up at 5:30). Usually get up once during the night.

When I don't exercise, I don't sleep. I'm not sure if sleeping well has to do with being physically tired, or not having my brain spinning it's wheels. I get into this "thinking" mode, and it can be about things that are so irrelevant to existence--but once I go down that rabbit hole, it's all over.

Kitten woke me at 5:57am, demanding to be fed. She has tactics. There's the going on the desk and knocking everything over. There's the chewing on something and getting me to totally freak out (she doesn't do this at any other time). There's the loud meowing. Sometimes, I get the purr alarm--that can be good, but it occasionally comes with the bites or the cat nose up my nostril.

Right now, it's windy and rainy--I'll sleep well.
for me, being physically tired makes for a nice deep sleep. i'm pretty active, do a lot of things that require physical exertion.

ahhh, windy and rainy.........those always make for good sleep for me too!

7-8 is usual for me but I prefer 8-9.  .......Must be because I'm a Leo!  You know us kitties!! LOL! If I really need it, I have slept 10 on a weekend before, not counting bathroom breaks though! LOL!
very nice!

occasionally i'll sleep 9 or 10 hours, but that only happens when i've been very busy/active the day before. it's lovely though!

For some strange reason, I slept pretty good last night...must be the nice clean sheets....

or the fresh air when I aired out the apartment all day!

I felt much better Monday and Tuesday...hopefully that will continue...we are expecting a heavy rain in the coming days..and then back down to reality with the temps....

YUP! That's usually how it goes for me too, or if I hadn't gotten enough sleep all week, or not sleeping well.

Oh, @artiesmom, Maybe those nose strips will help?? when you're stuffy, and ear plugs are great too.

Oh, no, probably not when you're stuffed up.
Yea, I can't use the nose strip because they are latex. My Sleep Right night gaurd (for my jaw) came w/ a new kind of thing for your nose. It's plastic, & actually inserts in the front of your nose, & holds it open a little way up. I've only used it a few times, but it works pretty good. ;). Got it at CVS

I have no clue.  I really don't.  I catnap all through the 24 hour cycle.  I'm guessing that I sleep about 8-10 hours out of 24, but that really is just a guess.  I've never slept at night.  Day sleeper only, and since retiring, I've gone to catnapping.
catnapping sounds good!

hmmm.........i nod off occasionally in my chair at the computer desk. so now it's three of us that sleep in chairs sometimes!
for me, it's not particularly comfortable napping in my chair.

7-8 for me; but 9 isn't unheard of either.  I do like to nap too.  I always have!  Last week I had a strange cold.  It wasn't so bad on the runny nose front; but man I wanted SLEEP!  I took 2 naps several days last week and still slept at night.

I used to be able to get away with just 4-5 hours of sleep.  I don't know if it's age or having children or both; but man I can't do that anymore!!  I don't know if I just don't sleep as well; but man sometimes I could just sleep and sleep and sleep!

Ah but there are chairs and then there are chairs. Mine's a lazy boy. Can't get much more comfortable than that.

yes! that's the difference! you have a lazy boy, and @Artiemom has a recliner chair. i've got a very nice cushiony (used) fabric covered executive chair with a high back to it, but it's not particularly comfy to nap in. i can set the lever on my chair so that i can lean back, but i never do that as the next time i sit down i might very well expect the back to be stationary...and it would lean back on me!

maybe it's that we have more on our minds, now we're older...?
i mean, last night as i was getting ready for bed, i was doing some planning in my mind for upcoming month's budgets. not a great time for that, but i had a couple very good ideas -- which i've included in my budgeting today.

i hope you're feeling better from that cold!
