Good Afternoon!

this winter i'm getting much better, and more, sleep each night. the new wood stove has made that possible -- it's worth it's weight in gold!

so with sleep on my mind, for today's Question of the Day.........

What is your 'ideal' amount of sleep each night (in hours)?

i've always done best with 7-8 hours sleep each night. last winter, with the old wood stove, i was lucky to get 6 hours each night -- because i was up many times each night adding more wood. it took me until mid-summer to feel well rested again!

i rarely take a nap during the daytime; only when i'm very overtired.

how about you?

I need 7-8. I'm ok on the lower end of that.  Usually I get about 7 hours although I will wake up at some point in the night.  Luckily I don't have too much trouble falling back to sleep.  I don't nap much at all.  Even when I have time on the weekends, I find that I wind up sleeping, not napping and then I feel like garbage and too groggy to function. It's better if I'm tired to push myself to stay awake and ensure I'll sleep well that night.  I try to keep my sleep schedule to a routine, even when on vacation.  I just feel better overall that way.

When I was 21, it was at LEAST 12 hours on the weekend :lol3: although I easily got by with one hour a night during the week. I have NO idea how I survived my 20s.

Nowadays it's probably closer to 7-8. Ideally, it won't be broken up, but often I wake up in the middle of the night for one reason or another, and rarely go right back to sleep.

I would love to go to bed around 10 and not move until 6 the next morning. That doesn't happen. I usually fall asleep around 9 or so for a couple of hours, then wake up again, before falling asleep around midnight, and then the cats start in around 3:30 or so. Most of the time, we're out of bed by 5:00. On weekends, Rick may go back to bed for another hour or so once he's walked The Beast, but I tend to stay up. And then by late afternoon, my butt is dragging.

I'll usually just sleep as long as I can. 12 hours is not unusual if I've got nothing to do. I've definitely been sleeping less since we got Onyx, though. If she wants you up, you're up! :lol3:

Oh man, I went through that when I got the kittens. There was not much sleep going on their first couple months here! My bed was used as their wrestling mat, much to Lucky's displeasure. That was supposed to be his kitten-free zone! :lol3:

I sleep in batches - two hours here, two hours there.  Eventually it adds up to about 7 - 8 hours over the course of about 11 or 12.  The only reason I can do this is because I'm now retired.  When I worked, I'd often have to manage on 4 hours and it was never enough.

I would love to be able to sleep at least 7-8 hours straight!

As it is now..my best sleep is in the recliner for a couple hours. When I get to bed, I toss and turn all night long...

And then, the love/hate relationship of Artie lying on top of me, or me feeling suffocated by his fur, or being held in a straight jacket because he is right up against me......

I also toss and turn a lot....I guess I have never been a good sleeper.. If I get one good nights sleep a week, I am lucky...

I think the most I do sleep is like and hour at a time, up for a a bit, sleep and them up, then sleep.....I also get pain my shoulder, hips, and back....mattress is still good...it is just me getting old and arthritic....almost ready to try tylenol PM or advil PM (which I should not take any NSAIDS)

long story, but I am tired...did not sleep well last night, plus I am nose stuffy and cranky...

Generally speaking, I sleep about seven hours a night. That is usually with getting up one time. I don't have trouble falling asleep again. Once in awhile, I crash and sleep 8 to 9 hours. That is so seldom it scares my husband and he opens the door to check on me.

I always try to sleep long enough to smell coffee brewing.

I'd like to sleep for 8 hours. My kids have been waking up at night lately so my sleep has been broken and I started babysitting so I have to be up by 7 am.

I never seem to get enough sleep. I think I spend 8 hours in bed every night, but I'm a really light sleeper. I wake up at the slightest little noise and my brain has a habit of rousing me from the deepest slumber with thoughts like "Hey, did you pay the gas bill yet? Because I think it's due tomorrow."

I also would love to pass out at 10pm and wake up at 6am... but sometimes it's 11, and sometimes 9:30 (which usually means getting up at 5:30). Usually get up once during the night.

When I don't exercise, I don't sleep. I'm not sure if sleeping well has to do with being physically tired, or not having my brain spinning it's wheels. I get into this "thinking" mode, and it can be about things that are so irrelevant to existence--but once I go down that rabbit hole, it's all over.

Kitten woke me at 5:57am, demanding to be fed. She has tactics. There's the going on the desk and knocking everything over. There's the chewing on something and getting me to totally freak out (she doesn't do this at any other time). There's the loud meowing. Sometimes, I get the purr alarm--that can be good, but it occasionally comes with the bites or the cat nose up my nostril.

Right now, it's windy and rainy--I'll sleep well.

7-8 is usual for me but I prefer 8-9.  .......Must be because I'm a Leo!  You know us kitties!! LOL! If I really need it, I have slept 10 on a weekend before, not counting bathroom breaks though! LOL!

I have no clue.  I really don't.  I catnap all through the 24 hour cycle.  I'm guessing that I sleep about 8-10 hours out of 24, but that really is just a guess.  I've never slept at night.  Day sleeper only, and since retiring, I've gone to catnapping.

i always wake up at least once during the night too. i mean, our jaspurr usually comes to snuggle with me at minimum twice each night, and i doze lightly while i'm giving him scritches for a while. and during the winter months i'm up at least once adding wood to the wood stove. i do go back to sleep relatively easily.

it's worked out very well that i invested in the 'kitty apartment' (aka, extra large dog crate -- with loft/shelf and corner hammock) for our deedee and allie. there really was no good room to use as a safe room for them, and they both actually sleep at night -- so no 'kitten crazies' going on during the night here.
