I just had my 6 month old cat I found as a stray, neutered this morning. I was sent home with pain medication but the cat is bouncing off the walls acting like his usually kitten self and he doesn't seem to want me to catch him. He still has the paper collar on with his name on it because I can't catch him to take it off. How hard should I chase after him to get the pain meds in him?? I have never had a neutered cat come home and act like absolutely nothing happened to him it's a little strange....

I've never needed to give pain medicine after a neuter either. Most cats bouce right back after the anesthesia wears off.

I wouldn't worry about chasing him to give him the meds. If he's zooming around he probably feels fine.

Thanks for all your help, it's been awhile since I have dealt with a neutered male.

Yeah, I only was given pain meds when my girl was spayed. My boys didn't get any when they were neutered. You're good, sounds like he's "bouncing back" quite literally :)

It amazes me!! My last neuter was several years ago just dealt with spays more recently just didn't remember how males deal with their surgery...

Tumbles was like this!  He was a crazy guy for about half a day, running all over the place and such.  I think it was the anesthesia working its way out of his system.  After about half a day, he calmed down.  I've had both males and females altered, and none have ever come home with a cone or pain meds.  He could probably lose the cone and be okay.  Just watch for excessive licking and swelling/redness at the incision sights.

Totally  normal for animals to literally be bouncing as anesthesia wears off
Their brains are still kind of foggy so try to keep them in a room where they can't hurt themselves as they bounce and run around. Crating isn't necessary.
