Before I start let me say that I'm pro spay/neuter and this is just out of curiosity.

The dog breeder community seems to have come across studies that show that we (owners and vets) are spaying our dogs too early and it has cause stunted growth in some dogs because of the loss of hormones.

I'm wondering if there is any studies out there saying the same about cats. I am aware that cats mature quicker than dogs and females come into heat around 4 months.

The only studies have been done on dogs.  The issues with dogs seem to be much more pronounced in the large breeds which, even though they are different species, I think would indicate that it isn't an issue with cats.

It's much easier to put off the procedure in dogs.  Females only go into heat twice a year at predictable times instead of the almost continual heat that many kitties have.   Unwanted behaviors can also be overridden in male dogs with training which isn't possible with kitties.  I know that training is possible with kitties but they are far too independent to override a natural instinct like mating.

I always wondered that about my litter also. Their father was a large cat. they we all fixed when they were 9 weeks old. One of my boys is 16.5 lbs, his brother is 16 lbs and his sister is 13.5 lbs. People say they are big, but to me they look normal. None of them are fat, just long and lean. I wondered if I let them mature they would have developed more like their father. They recovered from surgery muchh better than my older cat who was not neutered until he was 6 yrs old.
