Hello, this site has been insanely helpful with my unexpected kitty pregnancy!
So our 9 month old kitten has had kittens! 4 beautiful little fur balls. She had them under a couch in the loving room so we had to move her original nesting place into a spare bedroom. We have 2 other cats so we have to keep the door shut. Plus we didnt want her to try and move them back under the couch. Once settled, she is fine with the new nest and everything seems to be going just fine, as long as we stay with her. As soon as we leave the room and shut the door, she leaves her kittens, sometimes even mid nursing, to come meow at the door until we come back. She doesnt want us to leave, so we've been taking shifts. I dont want her to feel abandoned or alone without us in the room but this is rough! I dont know what to do, is what we are doing bad for everyone? Everything i read said mom cats want to be left alone, but this is not the case with her. Shes a good mom when we are in the room but i dont want her abandoning her kittens when we are gone. Help!

Can you move her nest into the living room so she can be with you when supervised?

Please post photos!

We have two other males cats, one being the father, that we would could seprate for a little while but i dont wanna move her nest around much. Anytime we make a switch, she gets upset for a little while. We had to move her twice already and they are only a day and a half old. Once from under the couch, then into a bigger container. Plus i think she could try to move them back under the recliner couch which is impossible to get to them without tipping the whole couch over.

Are both of your males neutered now? She can get pregnant again very soon after delivery. Within a week.

The recliner is very dangerous. Definitely don't allow that. She may settle after another day or two. For now, try to spend as much time with her as you can. She's feeling needy.

Yes, the recliner is a huge no-no! Kittens have been squished to death that way. I would just leave her in the bedroom with her wet food, dry food, and water, and of course litter box for now, and spend as much time with her as possible. I would not keep moving the nest. Hopefully she will settle down soon. I advise getting your males neutered ASAP to prevent further litters. Mom can be spayed when the kittens are 8 eeeks old.

The father is not as of yet but they will definitely be seperated until he is. We were under the impression that a cat can't get pregnant till she's in heat and we never saw any sign of her being in heat so we thought we were good still. I'm guessing she was in heat for about 10 seconds before little fuzzy father got her pregnant.
As for the recliner, we never use it just in case kittens are under there. I was just such a pain to get them back out so I definitely don't wanna do that again. So in the spare room she stays, I'm just hoping at some point we can leave her by herself for a bit... just so we both are able to go sleep in our bed at night...

Heres another cute pic!

As far as knowing when she comes into heat. It's really hard to tell when a cat comes into heat and it only takes once for her to get pregnant.

Please make sure they are kept separate until the males are neutered. One thing to remember is that it takes a few weeks before the male hormones to disappear so there is still a chance of getting her pregnant.

She will eventually get use to being by herself. She is afraid and stressed right now. Try putting a piece of clothing with your scent on it with her when you leave the room. That will keep your scent with her when you leave. She will soon associate your leaving as safe.

Good luck and please consider spaying & neutering all your cats for their health and safety.

Have you considered putting mom cat and kittens in your bedroom with you? It would have to be off-limits to your other cats, but she would get more time with you. Just a thought ...

I would love to but we really do not have the room and I don't wanna move her again. Also didn't want her to take them under the bed and have us not be able to get them. Unfortunately, the spare room is the best bet right now. If she's sleeping, we've been able to sneak out for a little while as long as we are quiet out of the room. One step closer anyways...

I want to add, the males if they are friends with momma, are probably no direct threat to the kittens.  Quite a few are even helping momma.

Still, unsworen is best.  Also, some adult cats are afraid of small kittens, and its not sure they contend themselves with a hiss and run away.  They CAN make a preemting strike.  So IF you decide to let them met, noticing momma doesnt mind and wishes this - be there observing the first two three occasions, till you are SURE its OK and good.

But as said, there IS some danger she may get pregant again, this may happen even one week after delivery.  Nursing is no defence for cats, unlike what is partly with humans.  And a neutered tom may impregnate for at least one week after the neutering!   It may be more, some say even several weeks, but I know of sure examples of up to one week after.

And if the tom is aggressive, yes, the hormones takes several weeks to leave... So a territorial dominat tom is a real danger for at least a month after a neutering.

Such is important to know for rescuers, before they even try to let a territorial tom meet their residents.

I think this is quite sweet with a momma cat whom wants her human parents/friends  near...  :)
