My cat was neutered this week and as he is a very determined licker has bee wearing "the collar".  He has had his collar on for 3 days so it must be healed up enough now... so I took the collar of and he has already licked off the scab leaving the pink skin.  (By the way, he split it TWICE the first day freaking out over the collar and had to be reglued... he chilled after that).

For the moment I have put the collar back on him.  He doesn't seem to be in any pain at all and far as I can tell the wound is closed (just not pretty since he messed with it twice that first day).

Is it ok to take the collar off and let him lick all he wants?

That's ultimately what I did with my boys in August. Yeah, they licked it, but they were fine. Never put a real e-collar on them I tried putting one fashioned out of a paper plate but well, that didn't last long.

I would say if it hasn't split and it's looking ok you are fine. Just check it maybe twice a day for the first week to make sure it's still doing healing.

Good, thanks! I seem so paranoid with this cat!
