I've been lurking the last week or so, and wanted to take an opportunity to introduce myself and my cat.

Almost two weeks ago, I adopted (my husband, my children, and I) a five-month-old kitten named Gizmo from a local rescue.  He is such a joy!  He's very affectionate and so confident for a little guy.  I'm going to attach a picture, even thought it's not the best photo....most of them are blurry when he's awake since he's always moving, lol.  Oh, and his fur is soooo soft!  I hope that it doesn't change too much as he grows.

At his last vet visit, he was about 6 lbs even at 5 months and 10 days.  Anyone have a guess about his final weight?  His foster mother from the rescue said he was one of the smaller kittens from the litter.  There were 10 of them!!

He follows us everywhere from room to room and always wants to be with us and on our laps.   Sometimes I wonder if we should have adopted another kitten with him?   We have a larger family, so he is always getting attention, rather it be playing or cuddles, but I just want him to be as happy as possible.  Has anyone else added another cat so soon after adopting, or can one little social guy be happy being an "only kitten"?

Thanks ahead of time for any opinions!!

Sounds like you have a wonderful new family member! I have no idea how large he could get. I've heard the rule for the average kitten is the weight in pounds is about equal to their age in months, so he's larger than average!

Well-socialized kittens like Gizmo tend to love having a playmate, so if you want to add another cat I think it would go very well. A kitten around his age or an older cat with a similar energy level would be the easiest to introduce, and now would be a good time to do so because the younger a kitten is the more adaptable it is and will be more likely to welcome a new cat, whereas an older cat will be more set in its ways. If you decide you do not want a second cat, that would be fine as well. Gizmo sounds pretty happy! Lots of play time and enrichment will keep him from becoming bored.

If you do decide to adopt another, proper introductions are key no matter how laid back the cats are.

Hi, welcome to TCS!  It's nice to meet you.  Gizmo is gorgeous; he has such beautiful markings.  I am sorry that I can't provide information about his weight. Speck was a really big kitten - the vet neutered him early because he met the weight requirement before the age requirement.  He weighs probably weighs somewhere around 20-22 lbs, now that he is full grown.

As for getting another kitten, IMHO Gizmo would enjoy a friend.  Kittens love to play together and it's so much fun to watch.  As @Molly92  said, proper introductions are key.  I've had maybe two become instant buddies, but it has been my experience that there is almost always kitty drama.  Speck is a true gentleman and we anticipated no problems when with him when we made the decision to bring Blackberry in the house.  (A neighbor left her when he moved.) We didn't follow the rules of introduction and Speck freaked out.  Daisy, who we thought might get upset, was fine.  She ignores Blackberry and her sister (who had also been abandoned) except to occasionally look at me in alarm as if to say:  There are cats in our house!

Cat politics...I will never understand them.

Gizmo is quite handsome.  The black spot on his nose his black tail are so cute.  And his fur looks very soft.

Hello and welcome to you and Gizmo! He's gorgeous!!

Males generally weigh a little more than females. My Lilith is about 5 pounds and her sister Sophie weighs about 7

I think that another kitten would be a good companion for him. I'd go back to the rescue and ask if there is one that he was particularly bonded to.
