Hi All

Speedy went in to be spayed on Tuesday, and for the most part she's doing okay. She's still very sleepy and very needy and cuddly, but the wound looks perfectly fine and she is eating and drinking.

My only worry is that she threw up about an hour ago. She is still on very bland food, so I am just a little worried as to why she'd throw up now? Especially when she is still not very active and wanted to sleep alot.

Don't get me wrong, she walks, and will run for food, but she isn't herself. I know it's huge surgery, but all these things you read online say she should be back to normal after the 48 hours.

Am I being overly worried, or should I take her back to the vets?

She is my first girl, so this is all new to me (the last one died from a reaction to the anesthetic when being spayed, so I am quite neurotic about the whole thing at the moment).

Thanks in advance

Is she on any pain medications? This can sometimes cause the symptoms you are seeing.

Also, the bland diet...is this completely different food than what she was eating? Is this something your vet suggested? I've been through dozens of spay/neuters and have never fed anything other than their typical diet. Just smaller portions the night following surgery.

No, no pain medication at all. Which I think is why she's so subdued, and I would have thought she'd be on something, but when I asked they said she didn't need any.

It's just boiled chicken at the moment, I was going to start her back on her food tonight anyway. The vet wanted to give us some Royal Canin stuff, but these are on Catz Finefood and Granatapet so I felt they were already on something better quality lol.

She may have received a long acting pain shot as part of her surgery.  It could be that.  Otherwise, it sounds like the anesthesia meds didn't agree with her system and they are having a hard time being flushed from her body.  If she's like this tomorrow, I'd get her back to the vet for a check up and to make sure she doesn't need fluids to help flush that out of her system.  Also, check your paperwork and see if they gave her any pain meds.

Can you give the vet a call?

I had to take mine back to the vet after spaying  because she wouldn’t eat due to the pain. The vet covered the consult fee i had to pay for  the pain meds.
