Milka Is a 4 months old, female, Scottish fold. Couple of weeks ago  I have noticed that her bottom lip swelled up. First reaction was to go to see a vet, who told me that it must be an allergic reaction. I have removed my febreeze plug-ins, changed her collar, changed her food but it didn't help. It has been 2 weeks now without a change, on top of it, this morning i have notice that both of her top lips are swollen as well. I am very worried and unsure of what to do. can i give her any antihistamine tablets? can anyone help or give me an advice of what to do now?

What did you change her food TO?  If your or your Vet suspect food allergies, did you change to a hypoallergenic food?  If not, you may still be feeding her an ingredient that she is allergic to.  If so, you should have been told that it takes more than 10 days to be effective.  Food trials can take up to 8 or more weeks.

Did your Vet prescribe any antihistaimines?  I'm guessing not since you asked the question.  Normally people give thing like we humans take...Zyrtec, that sort of thing.  But the amount would depend on the size of your cat, I would think.  for THAT, you need to check with your VET.

Did you change the BOWL?  That I would do to, if you are using a plastic bowl.

Thank you for your message, I have changed her food to hypoallergenic, and cooked chicken. Also, every morning she's been getting half of Zyrtec... But I haven't notice any difference. The vet I've seen was useless- did not advise me on anything! Hence I will be changing the practice. Tomorrow I'm going to see a new vet because it got worse :( I haven't notice change in her behaviour but her lips looks infected and I've noticed that she has got spots on her chin as well.im very worried coz I love her to bits :(

OMG!  Poor thing

Besides advising the above, did he put her on anything...antibiotics, steroids, etc?  This could be what's called Rodent Ulcers, or chin acne, technically the same thing, I believe.

Considering the looks of this, it truly looks like it has something to do with her food and water dishes.  NO plastic for either one, including drinking fountain, if she has one, and they need to be sterilized each and every day if that's the problem.  Even if you are using porcelain, make sure there are no hairline cracks where bacterial could lay in wait.  I actually started using my old china bowls to feed my cats to prevent any issues.

I'm assuming that stainless steel bowls are best here?  I didn't think about cracks in porcelain so thank you @mrsgreenjeens  for that info!  Also a daily run through the dishwasher, full cycle with HEATED drying, should be sufficient to sterilize her bowls.  Bless her!  Those poor little lips!

Unfortunately, your situation here is yet another chapter in the ongoing saga entitled "How Do I Find a Good Vet?"  Ultimately that means spending money at one vet after another in your search.  I hope you find that person soon!

What water does she drink? Tap, or purified from a plastic container, or...?  Plastic containers sometimes contain BPA's.  But I've read recently that the alternatives to BPA's are reportedly just as bad or worse!  <sigh>  We don't usually think about this, but just a simple thing as filling their water bowls could have a great impact on their health.  I'll be waiting to see what else the advisors say.  Good luck to you and let us know!

Hello, Thank you all for your very helpful replies! Milka is Soooooo much better now and back to her normal-naught self :D the new vet has given her steroid shots and Antibiotics - it wasn't the food allergy!   Her immune system was down and she was bitten by a flea under her chin (hence the spots), so it seems that she had a reaction to that. The problem I have now is that, she doesn't go out and I don't have any other pets at home, so how on earth did she get a flea bite? Additionally vet has given me some stronghold drops and soon I will be changing the flooring from carpets to solid wood, that might help :D

Her lips are back to normal and she can eat whatever she wants, so she is a one happy cat!

YOU could have picked up a flea and brought it in on your pants, etc.  it's so easy to bring them in without even knowing it, particularly if you visited any friends with animals, or even just walking thru an area where animals with fleas happened to be.  (kind of like ticks, i imagine)   OR, on the other hand, let's think that maybe one of your friends brought them in

Thank you for the information. My cat Leo has this. I am really scared. It's just the beginning of it, I can't make a photo of it. It is not really big, but if you zoom in the photo below, you may see it. We'll go to the vet tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. I am so scared of it. If it's not the same? Oh, can anyone tell me if at them it looked the same?

I don't think you need to be too scared.  this could be chin acne too, or a simple allergy, or even a bug bite.  But either way, nothing to be too afraid of.  Has it gotten any worse?
