My username is MountainCatLove, but call me Deb. :wavey:

I'm introducing myself and my housemates, Amber and Duncan. I'm retired from years and years in medical occupations. I get to spend my time indulging my love of sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, music, and hanging out with the two coolest cats on the planet . . . as long as they are in different rooms. That's a problem for the behavior board.

Not our first cats, between us my husband and I have enjoyed the company of dozens of cats, both before and since we met over 30 years ago.

Amber is almost 9 years old, has been with us for nearly 7 years. She is a gorgeous ginger tabby, cinnamon and cream with intensely defined markings. She started life in a "cat factory", a home in Taos where multitudes of cats roamed freely. She probably had her first litter as soon as she came into heat. She remains a dainty, petite princess who could stand to lose a few ounces. She and her second litter, all fluffy little ginger stripers, were left at a shelter. After weeks of not being able to place mom or babes, the Taos shelter traded them to our local shelter in exchange for a dog our shelter couldn't place.

I heard of her from a friend who knew I wanted a ginger kitty. I went to see her at her foster home. She was sitting in a crate, surrounded by the babies. She looked at me and told me her name was Amber and I wanted her, not one of her fat little boys. A week later the kittens were weaned, Amber was neutered, and she moved in with us.

Duncan was born on Kodiak Island, Alaska. My daughter adopted him as a kitten from the shelter on Kodiak. He's a splendid boy, half Maine Coon, a sandy blond flash of fur and muscle, fully twice Amber's size. He moves swiftly and sliently; we call hm The Stealth Cat. My daughter was tranferred from Kodiak to Honolulu last summer. The heat and humidity made Duncan sick. Daughter asked us to adopt him. What does one say? Of course, we took him in.

That was almost six weeks ago. They each want to be the only cat in the house, very territorial. Amber is snotty and snide, Duncan is a bully. I adore them both, but this is not a happy house. We have a lot of work to do.

I can't get images on here from my iPad, but will add them when I'm next at the PC.

Welcome, Deb!
Now that you are retired, have you considered taking up writing?  Specifically writing about cats?  Your descriptions of Amber and Duncan are so detailed and charming that I feel like I know them!   I'm looking forward to seeing their photos when you can post.  I love the way Amber chose you at the shelter.  My ginger tabby, Milo, chose me as well.  This is a great site with a great deal of information and very friendly posters so I hope you enjoy yourself here.  Will be looking for those photos!

Thanks for the welcome from both of you, and to you Margd, for the kind words. I do indeed love to write.
Swamplady, I look forward to perusing the site and finding all the adorable pictures. I've been so absorbed in the ongoing cat conflict that my efforts have been aimed at seeking helpful suggestions. I haven't yet begun to explore.

I can't wait to get to my PC and photo files to post pix of my guys.
