Good Day

I am going to try and keep this as short and to the point as I can. Any advice is appreciated.

We recently had our newest rescue (Ajax) neutered. The facility we adopted him from did not neuter or spay any of their adoptable animals , but did provide a voucher. The state we now live in is not as animal forward as the one from which we moved.

Everything went fine and Ajax was doing quite well after surgery for the first 5 days. They did not send us home with an e-collar and though it crossed my mind, I do trust our vet. On the 5th day (of course a Sunday) he began overly grooming the healing incision and some how pulled part of the scrotal sack through the very tiny incision.

We took him back to our vet the very next morning where they gave him a antibiotic/steroid shot, 10 day course of antibiotics and an e-collar. Our vet who is a country vet, and has seen a great many things had never seen this before. Of course if it is bizarre, unusual and rare it is going to happen in our family.

My question is has anyone seen or had this experience?

If so how long did it take to heal and how did it heal?

My husband and I are in disagreement. He feels that we are going to have to take Ajax back and have the small part of the sack surgically removed. Were I feel (rather hope) that it will heal on its own to a point where Ajax will no longer be compelled to over groom or chew on it.

Again any advice or wise words are welcome and appreciated.

That's very interesting. I've never heard of that happening, but I guess it's possible.  Is there another vet in your area where you can take him for a second opinion?

Thank You for your response.

Yes, I suppose there is.

I've been reticent to have to use the local vet as I have heard mixed reviews of their services. We actually drive 20 miles to see our current Vet. I am quite fond of them but a second opinion might be in order.

I think what I might do first is put a call into our Vets office and see what he thinks at this point. I would like to give it some more time to see if by healing completely Ajax will no longer be compelled to pay extra attention to it.
