Hi all,

My cat has this little lump near the corner of one of her eyes. The pictures aren't great, but honestly, there isn't much to see. She does not have any eye swelling or discharge, and doesn't seem distressed by it at all.

She sits on the window a lot these days--with the window open. When we first came here, she got these little lumps on her ear. I waited, and they actually went away in a few days (I believe they were insect bites). This thing in the corner of her eye--I was thinking it was a clogged tear duct, but from what I read, it doesn't really fit the description. She had a skin tag awhile back, and when I took her to 2 different vet places, they gave this alarmist speech about her having a tumor and needing a biopsy and a lot of blood work. I finally got an honest vet who said it was a skin tag (it didn't resemble a tumor at all). This vet, I really like her, is now 120 miles away... :(... She's helped me out and actually called in albuterol for my cat (she has standing albuterol and prednisone for asthma flare ups), and, while I trust her, I don't really want to go there. For my cat, it would be an okay trip--except for the fact that any vet completely stresses her out and makes her act like a crazed animal. For me, not so much. If I take her to a vet here, I would probably have to pay for a useless exam (doc can't hear much with all the growling and yowling--and she had one in July, I think) and a lot of unnecessary stuff--and the vet may put my cat through stuff that would make it that much more stressful for her. My question would be whether or not it's possible to wait and see...see if this thing goes away on it's own (it's been only a few days).

It's honestly practically impossible to tell from pictures. Can you maybe email the pictures to your trusted vet? I don't know if she'll be able to tell you anything by the pictures but she may point you at some direction. Maybe she can recommend a veterinarian closer to where you live? Or maybe you can ask in local online groups for a recommendation? I think it's vital to have a vet you trust and can go to, not just for this.

Best of luck and do let us know when you find out what it is.

Yikes, that sucks that the only vet you really trust right now is so far. I was extremely lucky to find a vet I liked right next door to where I live. I agree with Anne on sending the pics to the vet you trust. You definitely need one that is closer to you though. The only thing is if it ends up being a new vet, they'll insist on seeing her (so just be prepared for that). No one will diagnose or really even answer non-general questions without actually seeing them at least once. You sound like you are already probably aware of that but saying that just in case.

Regardless, I hope you are able to find a vet that you trust (and one that is much closer).

What was the verdict on this? I just noticed my cat had (what I thought was) little crusty eye near her tear duct so I went to scratch it off and noticed a little bit of blood. I put bacitracin on after I scratched it, that's why it looks kind of wet. But I'm thinking it looks similar to your cat's eye. Hope all is well with you both!
