Hi guys just wondering if anyone can throw any light on this, we had 2 cats both females who get along well, but just over a year ago my sister had to move to a place that would not take cats and she had 2 of her own mother and daughter, so we took them in making 4 cats
anyway we loved them like our own, although they were very elderly, the daughter misty was getting very skinny so we took her to the vet who said she had cancer of the stomach so we had to make the painful decision to have her put to sleep she was 19, we still have her mum but her mum is getting very frail now she is nearly 22 but just after she has eaten she walks around howling for a few minutes then goes to her bed, its been a year since her daughter died i do fear she is going the same way, she wants to eat all the time but still getting thin, can anyone help me on how to make her more comfortable please.

        thanks guys

It sounds like she may be uncomfortable, or she may be a bit confused. Has she been to the vet recently?

22 is very old for a cat. So I wouldn't be surpriced if she is sick. The fact that she is eating and not gaining weight but losing it is a bad sign. Please take her to a vet to get her checked. I will hope for the best, but I am afraid it won't be  good news.. Please keep us updated.

Maybe she's hard of hearing or seeing and is confused? Or maybe just old and a little kooky?

It sounds to me like she may have thyroid issues. The weight loss, constant hunger and restless/yowling are all markers of an overactive thyroid. Definitely get her checked by a vet ASAP.

Thank you guys for all your help and advice this prescious baby has never been to the vet, i know that sounds bad but she has NEVER been sick i do have a very good friend of mine who is a vet she has looked her over and she says yes 22 is an exceptional age for her she is losing her sight and is deaf and tge fact that her daughter is no longer with her could be the reason she howls i asked if its worth having her operated on to correct the sight issue but she prob wont come through the aneasthetic but as my friend says she is still eating and drinking which as said above is good the fact that she is not putting on weight is not so good i just cant bare to let her go yet but if she suffers its a case having to make the choice so thanks guys for everything will keep you updated xxxxx

All she'd need for the thyroid test is some blood drawn. Would your vet friend be able to come to your home to do that? If it IS thyroid, it just means meds for her - nothing scary like an operation. If that could be done, it could really help her. Do look into it. :hugs:

I agree that she needs to be checked out and that she might just need some medicine.  Believe me, if I can learn how to give a very fast and skittish feral cat phenobarb twice a day, you can learn how to medicate your dear old kitty girl.
