Hi I found this site while looking for a good type of food to feed all 7 of my cats.Havoc is an 8 yr old Calico,Mista is an extremely skinny grey tabby that's 7,Sami is my half Siamese (I love Siamese) and he's 6, Hobo is a solid grey big boy that was a feral kitten we took in and he is 4,Desi and Lucy were 2 of 3 kittens I took in to foster at 2 weeks old. When it came time to find homes for them I couldn't do it [emoji]128547[/emoji]. A friend took Ethel, her and Lucy are Calicos and Desi is light and dark gray tabby. Now there is little Meko that is solid black and has the built of a siamese that I adopted from Petsmart and he's 6 mos old.
Okay if your still with me after all that here are my questions, a few of my babies have issues and I need to figure out what's best to feed them. Hobo had a UTI about 9 month ago and had to go to an ER on a Sunday night and they didn't run a test to know if he had crystals or not (whole other story) so all the adults are eating Purina Pro Plan dry food for UTI plus Friskies can food. Mista is too skinny and almost looks dehydrated but he's not. Meko was nutared at 2 1/2 mos old. Now he is getting fat and he isn't finishing his Royal Cainen (sp?) food but loves his Blue Buffalo dry food (1st time trying it).
Any suggestions for something that would be good for all 7 babies, I just don't fell like I'm giving them the best nutrition. Thanks for reading all this

Are you trying to find one food that is good for all of them? If so, I feel your pain!

I wasn't quite able to follow what all the ages of the cats were - how many cats do you have that are under a year old? And do you just have the one with a health issue (the urinary tract issue)? Or are there others? How much wet food are you feeding vs dry? And, how are you feeding the dry, measuring it out or free-feeding?

I don't know much about urinary diets for cats, so not sure if it is good to feed one to a cat that is not having an issue. Feeding wet is better if you can do that. I most certainly cannot myself so they get a mix of wet and drive (I have five cats, one with CKD, one fat one that is on a diet, and two kittens).

I know a lot of folks will say put them on better quality food - if you can do that financially, that's great. If you cannot, then I wouldn't go crazy about it. I don't know much about Purina Dry. I feed Pro Plan sometimes in the canned form, however. You may want to look into how many calories are in the food, especially for the chunky monkey you've got. If you can find a better quality dry with fewer calories, that would be great. You'd have to investigate what would work though for your budget. I personally feed Science Diet dry because that's what we always have fed them. That's not considered great quality but they like it and it agrees with their little tummies.

Do a search through the threads for food, you'll get a lot of suggestions. I would either upgrade your kibble to something that's not from the grocery store or cut out kibble all together, especially because you have a cat that already has a history of urinary issues i really would urge you not to feed low quality kibble. Friskies is okay, just try and feed only the pates because the rest are loaded with gluten. Fancy Feast classic is also a good option, you could also look at Tractor Supply's 4Health grain free if you have one near you, good food for really cheap. Higher end you could feed some Nutro Natural choice (well loved by my cats) Soulistic (only available at petco) Weruva, Tikicat, Merrick, freeze dried (Primal), etc.

Thanks I will check some of those out. I never buy food from markets never have. I shop at Petsmart here in So California and some time Petco. Trying to find something that will benefit all my babies including Hobo is oddly very over whelming [emoji]128553[/emoji]

Donutte I have one kitten that's 6 mos, I free feed dry food and the all get wet food twice a day. I have 5 boys so I think so I think what ever is good for Hobo's UTI would be good for them. There just has to be something better than Pro Plan.

If you already shop at Petsmart and need to keep some kibble in rotation I would recommend their new house brand Good Natured, for a grain free kibble the ingredient list is quite good and the price is great with sales and your Pet Perks card. I feed my two the kitten formula (grain free chicken and egg) and then for the most part order their canned food from Chewy. For the price per can its much more reasonable for the flavors they will eat. They currently split three cans a day with measured out dry food. I have one male and one female so being worried about UTI issues for boys is new for me too.
