Cat vacuum

My cat seems to be trying to behave like a dog. In today's chapter she not only sniffs everything on the floor (carpet so who knows what is stuck in there). But not only on the floor; she will also sniff my shoes, get into my pants if I leave them on the bed, and so on. And then, she seems to be trying to eat what she finds. Is this normal?

There might be traces of catnip everywhere. If not, there is something your cat is trying to find. How long has he been doing this?

Sniffing to investigate things is perfectly normal cat behaviour, but trying to eat what she finds isn't - especially if it's a non food item. A vet check might be in order. The last thing you want is for her to need surgery because she's eaten something she shouldn't.

She has been doing this for a few months. It is not like if, say, I am taking something apart and a screw falls on the floor she will swallow it. But I have caught her eating a piece of plastic clingy wrap (you know, the one used at groceries to wrap say mushrooms inside a paper box) before and had to put my finger in her mouth to get it out.

Also, she did get a taste for wrapping/packaging tape. In fact, just this evening I got a box from the mail which inside had parts in a little bag taped to the receipt. She spent some 5 minutes trying to get to that tape. Since I am afraid she might try to eat it, I keep any such tape away from her.

Just reiterating - VET CHECK! Far better now than after she's sick because something is tangled up inside her
