My cat leaks urine

Early morning, my cat leaked a little urine in her blanket right before she went to her litter box. Has anyone else had this with their cat? The spots were light yellow color with no blood. She is urinating normally in her litter box.

She is 9.5 years old. She had bladder stone about 6 years ago. The vet said it was struvite stone.

She used to eat Hill’s w/d and c/d, but she started vomiting. I asked the vet and we changed her diet to IAMS URINARY-S since last September. But the IAMS changed their ingredients: added Guar Gum and omitted Potassium Chloride. I had to change her diet again. This time, I didn’t ask the vet. She is on NATURE’S VARIETY Instinct Limited Ingredient Canned Foods for Cats Lamb Formula since 3 month ago. The diet is not for urinary care, but I thought it’s okay. I’ve read catinfo.org: give 100% wet food with additional water mixed in. I make sure adding plenty of warm water to the wet food, so she can drink a lot of water. She eats three times a day.

Since she’s on NATURE’S VARIETY, she gained One pound. (She was 9.0 pounds in October, she is now 10.0 pounds.)

She is acting normal, playful, eating well and using her litter box with no other signs. I’m not sure if I should bring her to the vet this cold weather day. She hates visiting the vet… Maybe I add too much water to her food…? Maybe she is getting old…?  I don’t know…

Any advice would be helpful!! Thank you so much.

I would take her to the vet, but I'm not sure she needs to go today.  Depending on where you are, it might be an emergency vet and I doubt you need that since she seems to be doing well otherwise.  Hope it's a minor issue!

Thank you for the reply, Margd. I didn’t take her to the vet today. She used her litter box to pee this afternoon, no leaking. I also cleaned her litter box. She is doing fine.

Has anyone had the same issue? I would appreciate if you can share experience on this.

The only experience I have is one of my cats leaks as he's LEAVING the litterbox.  For some reason he doesn't finish in the box.  There are always dribbles on his way out.  Luckily he uses the box we keep in our bathtub most often, so cleanup is pretty easy.

Hi mrsgreenjeens, thank you for sharing your story. I wonder why he always doesn’t finish in the box. Have you ever talked your vet about it?

My other female cat sometimes does “elevator butt” while she is peeing…

I believe I mentioned it to the Vet a few years ago and she just shrugged and said some cats are just weird.
He was in for a check-up at that time and nothing was wrong.  He's always been strange in the box.  Even as a kitten he always let me know when he was in the box by kind of mewing every time he was in there.  At first I always thought he was hurting, then I realized it was just "him".  And HE always pees with his front legs on the edge of the box, so the reverse of "elevator but".

hahaha! He’s so cute!!
I’m so glad to know he’s doing well! I think the reason why my cat leaked a little urine was she was half sleep. She is doing well! There hasn't been any sign of urinary infection. So, I’m not worried, but I decided to buy and try PH test Strips, after reading this thread: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/240333/urine-ph-test-strips

Maple leaks sometimes, but then again she's fat
She's just over 17 lbs.
Hi Donutte, thank you for your reply! Wow she’s a big cat! My cat leaked while she was sleeping. How about Maple? Have you talked about it with her vet?

You know, I took her in on Tuesday because I thought she was having trouble peeing. I completely forgot about the leaking part, mainly because I don't think she's done it for awhile. Then again, she has a towel that she pees on because she refuses to use the litter box (which we are working on remedying). It was either a towel or she picked whatever she wanted :/ So towel it was. I had other things I wanted to talk to the vet about too and just completely forgot about.

She'll be going back in a few weeks for blood work and a urinalysis. Her insurance that I signed her up for kicked in the day after we took her to the vet, which is the reason for the wait. And she's gonna need time to recover from the trauma of me taking her to the vet AND a groomer in the span of one week.

Oh I hope Maple’s trouble peeing will get better soon.
I also forget things what I want to talk to the vet, too! I always bring my note with questions, so I don't forget to ask. If you ask the vet about the leaking, please let me know.
