I've been wondering if it is safe to sprinkle bird seed and have my cat eat it once they sprout and reach a good height. Is it just as safe as cat grass?

Bird food is much less expensive than cat grass and it would be wonderful if Noah can benefit from it.

For about a year now I have been feeding Noah Costco's Kirkland dry food and I mix it with friskies wet canned food and I am wondering if this is a good diet for him? Costco's dry food seems to be of quality and it makes Noah's coat extremely shiny but then again if there is something out there that is much better I would love to know. Thank you.

Noah is a year and 9 months.

Cat grass is typically barely or oat or wheat grass. Bird seed contains a variety of different seeds so may not be safe to give to a cat even if some of the seeds include barely and oat. Pesonally I would not sprout bird seed and feed it to a cat.

Cat grass seeds aren't expensive at all. You can buy it online in bulk packages. You can even buy the type of wheat grass seed sold in natural and health food stores and sprout that. I guess some people like to juice wheat grass for a healthy drink.

I found some TCS threads about Kirkland dry food: http://www.thecatsite.com/newsearch?search=kirkland+dry&type=35 Apparently it's great to feed to ferals but not great for house cats. A few thread  say that the Kirkland dry food causes urinary issues BUT the posters don't say if they were only feeding dry food. A dry food only diet (doesn't matter what brand) can cause urinary issues in some cats. Adding canned food to the diet can help prevent urinary issues. It's great that you are feeding canned Friskies

What is your budget like? I know it's cheap to get a huge bag of dry food from Costco. There are much better quality brands of food out there that don't cost an arm and a leg
Chain pet stores like Petco and PetSmart have good quality affordable brands now and there are often big sales on food. I personally like the Nature's Variety Instinct brand of food, both dry and canned. Petco sells this brand. Blue Buffalo is another good one. I'm not too familiar with other good affordable brands of dry food. I know Orijen dry has been mentioned before as a good dry but I don't have any experience with feeding that. Ask me about affordable healthy canned food and I can give you a list
Canned Friskies is perfectly fine if your cat likes that, though.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

I will look into buying wheat seeds

As for the Costco food , I guess I will give the bag to feral cats I feed and go ahead and look at other brands of foods. I've read that Taste of the Wild is a really good dog food and I am wondering if its the same for cats.

Yes please can you give me the list of healthy canned foods! I would really appreciate that!

I have always been a bit skeptical with friskies because of their by products but yes Noah loves it.

This thread is outside of TCS

Some brands may only be sold at independent pet stores, like Weruva and Tiki Cat. Others can be found at most chain pet stores. Anything can be bought online these days

I think Taste of the Wild is a decent dry food. I know it's been discssed here on TCS before and people seem to like it.
