Hi Everyone!

So my one year old black cat has loss hair on both of his ears. I took him to the vet and they tested him for every thing from ring worm to ear mites and every thing came back negative. Even the vet was stumped on what it could be. He doesn't seem to be in any kind of pain and is acting normal. Has anyone else experienced this before or may have an idea of what it could be??

I have never had this particular problem before but did have a black cat who lost his hair in front of his ears until he was practically bald there.  The hair loss did not spread beyond this point and my other cats did not develop it so it did not appear to be infectious.  He wasn't bothered at all by it and was perfectly healthy otherwise.  Hopefully someone else will come along who has seen this balding on the ears themselves but I did find an article for you on-line that might be helpful.

This lists all the potential problems your cat has already been tested for but lists a few others as well, including genetics, stress and allergies to food or environmental triggers.

Hopefully someone will chime in who has more hands on experience with this kind of balding but this is at least a place to start.

I have a black cat that goes through periods where she will lose the fur on her ears. She does not scratch her ears and it does not seem to bother her. It grows back and then it can be months before it will happen again.

Sorry that's not much help but this has happened a few times and I have never found out why. Right now she is healthy and the fur has grown back and haven't had it happen again since last summer.
