Hello Everyone,

Please be patient as this may be long winded. I have a very pregnant Mama. I adopted Bitsy about a year ago. She has been mostly an indoor kitty with the occasional visit outside. I believe she is about a year and half old. About 4 weeks ago I picked her up and notice she had several lumps in her tummy. I had assumed that she was fixed. Over the course of the last few weeks she has grown so large. I have a fairly large bedroom with an attached office so for the last three weeks I have kept her confined to my room as she has been growing. She seems very content in there and spends most of her time on my bed. I set up a nice box for her which she loves.....she also has her own food and water bowls and a litter box. I thought she was going to have the little ones last week as she looked like she was ready to pop. She did not. She looks so miserable, does not seem to be in any pain just uncomfortable. She is so large that she is unable to lick her belly or clean her lady parts. I have been doing this for her for about 4 days. Two days ago when I arrived home from work after cleaning her lady parts I noticed that she was lactating and had several crusted areas around her belly. I cleaned her up as best I could. She is having a hard time getting on the bed now. She spends her time mostly on the bed, in her box and laying on the cold floor, I think it comforts her. Today is Friday, I am really concerned that she is over due. She really does not have any more room to grow and I have felt less and less movement in her belly. She also has a large kitten next to her lady parts which makes walking very difficult. Is there anything I can do for her or watch for? She will not allow me to use a thermometer on her so checking her temp is not an option. I don't feel like she is stressed or in fear about anything. She and I are very close. Any advice is helpful.

She's beautiful.

do you know when you first saw the kittens moving?  Delivery is 2 - 3 weeks later.

Here are a couple articles that may help you

Thank you very much, she is the sweetest girl!!!! I believe that she got pregnant sometime around Thanksgiving. She is very social with me, but more of a talker than a snuggler. She and I have very lengthy conversations....lol. I could feel them moving about two weeks ago. I could feel them, almost like little knots about four weeks ago, but at that time there was no movement. They were quite active until about 4 days ago. I have been watching her closely. One thing that I have noticed about her though is she does not look like other pregnant cats. She does not have the typical basketball tummy. This is probably a strange term, but she looks lumpy. She is not underweight by any means and she eats often. Up until two days ago she was eating two full bowls a day, now she only makes it through half of one. Drinks water non stop. Just a worried soon to be Grandmama!!!

So now I am really nervous, I came home from work today and Bitsy has blood on her belly. I thought at first it may have been one of here tests, but it is in the center of her tummy. I cleaned her up and can't find any visable cut. I think her skin is broken because she is so large. She isn't in pain I am just so worried she is over due.....any thoughts?

is there coming any more blood after you cleaned her?

Re the overdue as such - cata manage being overdue better thanhumans, while kittens manage being early delivered much worse than humans.

So, with humans this situantion is no problem, you go to the hospital and get it done,  while with cats the risk calculus usually tells you to wait.

Thank you, there was little blood this morning, she just seems miserable. Slept in her nesting box most of the night.

Is the blood coming from her vagina? If so, and it's bright red, you need to call your vet ASAP. It can signal a problem. A pinkish discharge is okay.

If she is chafed on her tummy or nipples, rubbing Udder Creme or even olive or vegetable oil on her will help. No baby oil!

As a point of reference for you, here is my cat the day before she gave birth to 4 healthy kittens:

She looked like she'd swallowed a basketball!

Thank you all so much, no the blood is on her belly. It is not coming from any if her nipples, its right down the center, its almost as if she is stretched so far her skin is cracking. Thank you for the advice I have olive oil here and will try that......poor Bitsy she just keeps giving me these sad looks. I think she may have a large litter. I am a little concerned by the current lack of movement.

Also she is too large now she can't clean herself so I have been cleaning her, I have been watching her lady parts closely and other than a slight clear discharge there is nothing out of the ordinary there. This is a first experience for me so I am soooo nervous.

Go ahead and oil her belly. It will give her some relief. Keep it oiled for her.

You will not see much, if any, movement towards the end. The kittens are squished in there, and when they drop down in preparation for moving into the birth canal for delivery, there is little movement.

You'd have thought by the size of my cat that she was having 6 or more kittens, but she only had 4. It's hard to know. It's not unusual that they can't clean themselves when they get so big. It's good you are doing it for her. The clear discharge is a pre-labor symptom.

So today is three days from my last post. Bitsy has still not given birth. I sat with a calendar this morning. I first felt the kittens and new she was pregnant on the 30th of December. That was 27 days ago. She has looked like she is going to pop for the last two weeks. I believe she got pregnant on or about Thanksgiving but I can't be sure. The only thing I have to go on is when I first felt the kittens in her tummy. The poor girl looks just miserable. She is eating normally and drinks a ton of water. She has been nesting for over a week and has been consistently sleeping in her nesting box. I have been cleaning her belly wounds and putting olive oil on them. She seems to be getting more of them. They appear to be superficial, just cracking stretched skin. I hope this happens soon, I am a nervous wreck!!!

It does sound as though it will be any day now! The nervous feeling is something all of us with pregnant cats have experienced at one time or another. You can also buy udder balm and use it on your cat's belly and nipples. It's available at feed stores and online. Keep us posted! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

@sarthur2  Thank you so much!! She is my girl!!! The small spots she has seem to bother me more than they bother her.....I just keep them clean and well oiled lol. I just want things to go well for her.....she and I have very long conversations and are very attached. I do believe that she will wait for me to get home from work whenever the process starts. I am hoping however it is soon as she just looks miserable!!!!! I really think she has no more room in there. I am sure once the process starts i will bombard the thread here asking questions. This is the greatest site!!!

Hey There,

All is the same with Bitsy, she was less active this morning when I was getting ready for work. Typically she and I have a lengthy conversation first thing in the morning. Today she just didn't want to move. She has not dropped her plug but is leaking ever so slightly. When I got home yesterday, I attempted to clean her belly but she was very uncomfortable. She does not have the full round tummy like yours does. She is more buldgey if that makes sense. She is a Fire Tip Siamese, I don't know if that makes any difference. Her belly looks very very strange to me. Other than looking at me like get these things out of me, she seems to  be doing fine. If the calculations I did yesterday are correct, it should be any day now. I could physically feel the babies 28 Days ago. If everything that I have read is correct you are able to feel them between 4-5 weeks. If I use 4.5 weeks as my marker  that is 31.5 days . That means she is around 59-61 days into her pregnancy........I am really hoping she delivers this week. My fiance goes out of town for business this coming Sunday for a week.  Being that she is unable to clean herself at all I am closely watching all her discharge and so on.....this is sooooooooooo very stressful!!!!
Being on this forum really has helped so much!!!

I may have missed this, but has she seen a vet? I'm just wondering if they think they'll have trouble delivering because she's not carrying in a typical way.
