I found a kitten and at the time he was 3 weeks old. He is now about 9 weeks old. He is constantly going after my hands and ankles. Biting and scratching me. He also jumps on my face sometimes and bites, I have tried multiple things to try and stop him but he will not stop. The only thing I haven't tried is a water bottle but I do not really want to. What should I do!

The only thing that worked for me was getting a second cat..I ignored that advice for a few months until I could not stand it another second..The behavior stopped immediately once the kitties were introduced..I was amazed..You would think adding another cat would make your life harder but it made things so much easier..If you can afford to adopt a playmate, I would recommend it for sure!

Please do not use a water bottle for this situation.  This sounds like re-directed play.  I have never had a cat jump on my face and bite me so I am not sure how to handle that.  As for the feet and the hands the only thing I can think of is to try to re-direct his attention with a toy you can throw when you walk into a room.

How much play time is he getting?  Do you have any interactive toys for him?  This may be a matter of trying to wear him out more through play.

This was separated from mom and siblings too young and most likely has not understanding of boundaries right now.

If you can get a 2nd cat that is still a kitten but older they may be able to teach him boundaries.  I have seen this work first hand between my cats and a six week old kitten I adopted that was separated around 4 weeks.  She had no concept of boundaries and my older cats very quickly changed this.

I think a big part of the problem is the age you got him. Young kittens learn what constitutes appropriate play from their siblings, and your boy has missed out on all of that. It will take time and patience to teach him boundaries and manners.

I'm not convinced how much a second kitten would help in this situation, as he could totally spook them with his over the top approach to play.

Stop all hand and foot play now. He needs VERY clear boundaries so he can learn what is and isn't acceptable. When he goes after you, freeze. You're only interesting as a prey substitute if you're moving. Hissing at him when he goes after you could help too, or yelping (kittens will squeal at each other if they go too far). If he bites, push into him slightly - its the opposite of what prey would do, and is often the quickest way to get free.

Make sure you have plenty of kitten safe toys, and get in the habit of always having something to hand to redirect him. For every 'no' there has to be a 'yes' ;) If he likes laser pointers, they can work wonders to get playful kittens away from you as you move around the house.[article="22328"][/article][article="30336"][/article][article="32740"][/article][article="0"][/article][article="0"][/article][article="32493"][/article][article="29678"][/article]

This is often a learned behavior when kittens are very small and just starting to feel the play mode.

We naturally will try to entice baby kittens with our fingers, to see their reaction, but very soon it turns into biting and scratching as they believe your hands are toys to maul and chew on.

Never allow this. Mom cats use the kitten's scruff to transport them and to teach them, so this is natural. This will be what you will use now to show him this is not good behavior.

The second he scratches or bites (or lands on your face!) you snap him up by the scruff firmly and say NO! Then put him down away from you. You can also stick a chew toy in his face then.

He will come back and just repeat this.

It doesn't take them long to associate his behavior with the negative reaction.

I like the catnip bananas. They are large enough for the kitten to really attack and easy to put in their way without getting mauled.  With Fluffy I used a paper towel roll.
