Alright so after about a YEAR of searching, we've finally found a vet who will be willing to neuter Indie for us! He's roughly 1.5 years old now, and I was wondering what the neuter procedure is for male cats? Do the vets keep them overnight or can they be sent home the same day? Also will we be given any antibiotics or medicine after the operation? How long will it take him to eat again? Will he have any problems eating or pooping or weeing after the operation?

Gosh I'm so nervous about all this lmao, I hope he pulls through alright! The operation will probably be within the next month so I've got a tonne of time to google up on everything so! I'm still really nervous though, I heard that some cats don't pull through a neuter?! Is this common or do neuter's generally go smoothly? Ahdjksa I'm worried!!!!!

Also should I expect any change in his behavior after the neutering or will he still be his loud, vocal self? (Not that we mind his loudness, we love it when he talks to us!)

I am sure I missed a post at some point, but why wouldn't vets neuter Indie?

The vast majority of spays and neuters go just fine. Will they be doing any blood work beforehand? They sometimes do that in older cats (vs kittens) to make sure there aren't any issues that are underlying that couple complicate things, but not sure at what age they would typically do that. I've had two male kittens and an adult female all neutered/spayed this past year, and they all did great. But I was nervous too so I definitely get it :)

You know, I'm not sure what to say regarding the change in behavior question. Are you just asking about the vocal part specifically or other things? Hopefully he's not spraying now, but if he is, hopefully that will cease. My boys were 13 weeks old when they got fixed so they never cared about the girls :lol3: Penelopy is about 3(ish) years old, and even came into heat the week after I got her. She got spayed a couple weeks after she was done with her heat (which was a month ago tomorrow) and she's still acting just like she did when she was in heat! A tad bit toned down, but quite vocal, and slinky, likes to do what I call "pole dances" lol.

It's kind of a cultural thing over here, they like to 'leave the cats w/ what they've got' to put it simply? And if they DO choose to do it it's always at an unreasonably expensive price... but we've finally found one within our range, so!!

Mmm I know but I can't help but worry :S And I'm not sure, I'll have to ask! Also he's just a little bit on the slim side of things, could this be a problem???

Oh gosh yes he's definately spraying omg. Though we think that's just irked a little by the fact that there's A TONNE of other toms in the area (though hardly any female cats!). I hope the spraying will cease after the operation! Also will he get friendlier or? He tends to get a little grumpy most of the time lmaooo. And pff those pole-dances sound hilarious!

That's interesting! I didn't realize there were areas that were against altering cats. Regarding his being slim, do you know how much he weighs? I would hope the vet would not operate on him if he thought it would be a problem. And regarding his personality, he should calm down quite a bit, which will probably display as being friendlier. And no females in the area?? That may be a good thing, but I suspect there must be some, as the tom cats have to come from somewhere!

I keep trying to get video of Pea-Pea doing her pole dance, but I think she always seems to know :lol3:

It sure is! It's a little bit of a pain too because we had to put up with Indie's spraying since he was about 7 months old! And no, I'm not really sure because we don't have a scale at the moment. We moved houses and left it in the old house and haven't found the time to get a new one. I'm guessing he'll be about 6ish pounds though? He isn't super slim but he isn't chubby like Button. And nope, none that I can see! Haha they're probably hiding from the toms, because there's been A LOT of fights going on outside because of a new tom cat that's come to the area. He's scaring away and injuring a lot of the strays! :(

Haha cats really are crazy at times. Indie has a habit of racing after me at his fastest speed when he's in the mood to play 'catch'. He's a lot more active than Button is and seems to never run out of energy! I think that's why he's so slim, because he's always on the go and running around and being crazy -- and protecting his house from the big mean toms outside by yelling out the window!
