My kitten was spade today and the plastic collar keeps coming off her, what can I do so she won't bother the incision?

Hello, the same thing happened to my cat when he was neutered. The vets put it on for him and he took it off the whole time. He was supervised the whole time, so make sure after your cat's was spayed, to keep a close eye on here :)

She is probably OK to be without the collar but you'll need to keep an eye on her. If she starts biting at the stitches she'll need to put the collar back on.

Tighten the collar? If it is coming over her head it is much too loose.

I've read about people using onesies instead of collars, maybe you could try that?
I don't know anything about it, do you might want to do a search here or on Google/whatever search engine you use. :)

Thanks for the responses!

The collar they sent her home with was a snapping collar and it was as tight as it would go, she slipped out of it again and again.

Tried onesies and she got out of those, too. Tried a fabric collar (fell off her too big) and also an inflatable collar (too tight).

Called the vet again and they gave her a new e-collar that tied with gauze and this one FINALLY stayed on her. It's been rough, she is having a hard time wanting to hold her head up and keeps it down.

It's so hard to see her like this! We are only on day 2 of 2 weeks.

Most cats really don't need to wear a collar for the whole time, if at all.  You'll want to keep an eye on her to make sure that she's not pulling at her stitches.  A bit of licking is ok.  Making her miserable isn't the goal.

I've never kept a collar on my cats. They've all done fine. All cats will lick, but rarely do they pop open their stitches. Two weeks is a long time for a collar from a spay surgery, in my opinion, but you know your cat best.

I appreciate all of the advice given here!

After 1 week, I took the collar off and she's been just fine.

She was so happy to have that ecollar off. I hate those things.

It's good to hear she's doing well. I don't like those collars either! Thanks for the update. [emoji]128522[/emoji]
