Nasal problems

Hello,

I am a new member to the forum. I have @ a 6 1/2 month old himmy kitten that I just love. We got him from a breeder when he was supposed to be 10 weeks. I think the breeder lied, because the vet said there was no way he is as old as he is supposed to be. Anyway, when we first got him he was fine then about 1-month or so afterwards, he started to get congested, so I took him to vets, he gave me antihisthamine which didn't do anything at all. Took him back and vet said, these types of cats sometimes have problems, which I already knew that because have had 4 other cats (pedigree)living w/ Mom and never had a problem. Vet said his nasal passages were so small and he would probably always be like that, there is a surgery for that if I ever decided to go with that. I trust my vet because it is also my Mom's boss and is very reputable. I was online looking at different forums. There is never any mucas. He occasionally sneezes. Ever since he started to become congested, his breath is horrible. He plays and eats just fine, but I think if he didn't have this problem he would feel better and seem happier. Help??

Sometimes this is just part and package of the breed. Breeding for the flattened look of the face will cause the sinus passages to compress and the kitty will have a hard time breathing. I have known some people who opt to do the surgery and some have had success with it, while others did not. It depends on the breed line of that particuliar Himalayan. Some breeders are just more ethical than others. Sadly, it is the cats that have to suffer for the breeders who are not out to really better the breed.

I never went into detail about the surgery w/ vet, do you know what they do. And the people that didn't work out w/ it - what happened.
