It is. The vet only gave us one can the other day, though, so that's what I've had to work with. I didn't start syringe feeding him until yesterday, and I didn't know he needed to eat so much until later in the day too, so that's why I had so much to feed him today. He also has his urinary tract food, but I don't think that has as many calories as this one(or anywhere close, really).

I do not have any advice for you but wanted to remind you that you are doing a great job. I am very impressed with how well you are handling this very diificult and stressful situation. Sending some more hugs and vibes to you and Booty. You are both in my thoughts.

Thank you very much. I'm not handling it nearly as well as it seems(lots of crying from me and my family) but I'm trying my best.

Feed him some high quality food. Dry food is actually  bad for cats, surprisingly. I reccomend weruva. It has no grains and uses real meat, not a pate. If your vet reccomends a particular kind of food, feed that.

Actually, at this point, Booty needs to be fed whatever he will eat. And if he will eat dry food on his own, by all means let him eat it. When the cat is suffering from inappetance, the only rule that applies is to feed the cat whatever it will eat.

@missingone123 - can you see if you can get more a/d tomorrow? If not, perhaps look up some foods online to see which ones are highest in calories. And perhaps just buy a smorgasbord of various foods to see if any of them appeal to him. Don't worry about brand or anything like that, just try whatever you are able to get to see if he'll eat it. He needs calories, which is the most important thing.

Heck, when I was trying to get calories into Lucky, some folks suggested a small pat of unsalted butter. Seriously, anything.

He's been on an all wet food diet for 3 months now, but thank you for the suggestion.

I do have dry food for the other cats because it's very expensive to give them all high-quality wet food. They get a can of wet a day and then I keep a bowl of dry out all day, while Booty gets two cans of wet. He doesn't like the dry food so he doesn't eat it, but the dry food is also urinary tract formula just in case he decided to have some.

I can try to offer him some, but I don't think he'd be interested in it, seeing as he doesn't like it when he isn't sick. I tried giving him some treats earlier, which he usually goes crazy for, and he didn't eat them. He also loves chicken, but he wont touch it. It's very sad- chicken is his most favorite thing in the world.

Cats can sometimes have changes in what they like when they are like this. Kinda like humans do. Temptations treats were Lucky's sick-food of choice, I think. He was never a big fan of them before but he gobbled them up when he was sick. He also liked Taco Bell chicken - he always like that, but he seemed to especially like it when he was sick (before he completely lost his appetite anyway). He had actually lost interest in tuna, but he loved the Temptations.

That's why I say try anything and everything you can that is not toxic for him. Plus, what a cat likes/dislikes today, he may change his mind about tomorrow. Sometimes even a change of location can make a difference. I don't really understand why, but it is true.

I only have these treats. They're dry, too. I think soft ones might be better, if he was going to eat them at all.

Do you think ice cream would be okay, or milk? I guess that upsets their stomachs, but maybe a little bit? I have vanilla and strawberry. My butter is salted, so that's a no-go I guess.

Update: He's gobbling down tuna!! I hadn't tried it yet, since he didn't like the chicken and I figured if he wasn't into that, he wouldn't like tuna. But he does! Thank you for the suggestion.

Edit: So, he only ate about half of what I gave him and I think it was mostly the water, but he ate it on his own and that made me happy.

Glad he is eating something.....

If you go to the store, pick up some Fancy Feast. It is inexpensive and is really not a bad food. Get the Pate...

Actually, you can get Fancy Feast just about anywhere. Corner store, etc.

You are doing a great job.

So glad he is eating.. he is definitely not ready to leave you! You are doing great!

Mix the tuna with some water..it may help hydrated him also.

Do not give him ice cream or any type of milk products. Cats cannot digest milk. That is why I had suggested Goat milk.

Or possibly PLAIN yogurt, unflavored, unsweetened.

I am trying to think expense.  Fancy Feast is really not bad, and it is pretty cheap.

I like the idea of using a ziplock bag to use as a larger syringe...

You are doing amazing! God Bless you

I apologize if I sounded snarky before....or mean.. I know you are doing great...

Cats hardly ever refuse Fancy Feast. It is like "kitty crack" to them...

Yay! Little victories!!

Like I said, I never thought Lucky would eat the Temptations as he wasn't fond of hard treats. But there he was, eating them. If he'll eat a little bit of salted butter (don't need a lot) then let him have it. I think calories is more important at this point, even over salt. Salt isn't good with the kidneys, but not eating is worse overall. And yes, it has dairy, but as I stated, it's been something that has been suggested before for cats that are not eating.

You're fine. Thank you for your help. Ill try the plastic bag method with the baby food I have coming, but I think the syringe is easier, even if it takes some time.

I can spare a few dollars on food if he'll eat it. I just want it to be high in calories, probably.

He's drinking water when he wants to. More so than he usually does, actually, I think(which is concerning, but better than no water I think?). I don't want to dilute the tuna because I think it was the smell that got him to eat it. There is lots of water in the A/D food, though.

good!!

If you think the syringe is easier, then just continue doing it...just get food into him. The AD would be the best because it is such a high calorie food for sick cats.

It is very understandable that you are your family are going through lots of crying.  I have been through health issues with my cats that have caused us lots of crying so I totally get that.  You are handling things better than you think. You are not afraid to ask for help and are quick to try the advice people offer.  You are absorbing a lot of information in a short amount of time and using it to help Booty as much as you can.

It sounds like you are on your way to a healthier cat. Fancy Feast has broth and some nice appetizers that most

cats like. My Siamese only likes the shredded chicken appetizer.

If your cat is 11 years old it could get the old age problems like my cats. My hyperthyroid cat quit eating for two

days and I was very upset until she got back to eating. Of course, I knew if she didn't eat after two days she would

definitely be seeing the vet. One thing I did for this cat that is 18 years old was make her "bucket list" and complete

all of the things I knew she would want. This makes you feel better.

Thank you all. I'm keeping hope guarded, but I'm glad that he seems to be feeling a little better. Ill keep the fancy feast in mind.

Maddie, if you find Booty is not eating the AD food, and is loving the tuna, you can put the tuna juice ontop of or mix it into the AD food or cat food. The smell may be doing the trick.

I have had personal success with Fancy Feast myself with a cat that refused to eat. One of my friends had a cat that got very sick. She thought I was nuts when I told her to try it. She feeds her cats high quality expensive wet food. She actually called her vet first and her vet agreed with me,
