It seems our cats meow has changed almost over night. She hasnt meowed in the last few days and just started back up again and it sounds different. It use to be really high pitched but now seems to have gotten deeper. Is it normal for this to happen over the course of a few days?

Hello there! Just a couple of questions. Has she been fixed yet? Going into heat can definitely make their voice and meow change.

Otherwise, I've had my cats' meows seem to change before, but honestly at the time never thought anything different about it. I don't think it's a problem but hopefully others will chime in with their experiences.

Yeah she is spayed. Shes getting close to being a year old, but our other cat who we got when she was young has had the same meow. Or I guess maybe over time it has changed, and thats how I thought it would change. Im just not sure if it's something to be worried about or if it does happen.

She has had a little cold of some sort the last few days, but just some sneezing and watery eyes. The other two cats had the same thing the last few weeks so shes the last to get it. But the others meow didnt change

Ah, another piece of the puzzle. You might want to take her to the vet to get checked out for that cold. This change in meow could be related to that, although not 100% sure how. Are your other two cats still sick?

Not sure if I ever noticed a change at that age in my cats' voices. I know they all changed at some point, but it's usually very subtle. Of course I haven't had a kitten since... 2002, at least not until this year. I got two kittens in July that are 8 months old now. Oliver's meow is weird, it changed in the sense that nothing used to come out, and now when it does it just sounds all warbly (I know that's not a word, but that seems to fit). That's just him though, have had other warbly cats though. Oscar still sounds like a pipsqueak :lol3:

No the others arent sick anymore, and she is actually fine now so the cold is gone. But the meow is still the same.

See she was the same, sounded like a little pipsqueak compared to the others. Shes almost a year old and sounded like a young kitten still, but now she sounds like a normal cat. But i thougt it wouldve been like you're saying, very subtle. Not over a day or two.
