I have three kitties and didn't think twice when a woman from a local facebook group needed a temp home for her girl. I took her in under the assumption that she was UTD on shots and spayed. She is the sweetest kitty and gets along great with my three girls. I notice now that her belly seems to have grown- she was a tiny cat to begin with at only 4.5 lbs or so.... last week i thought for sure it was just because she has been sneaking my kitten food (one of mine is on kitten food still) Well, she is most definitely pregnant. she has pinked up considerably in the last week and i had my vet take a peek at her to confirm. now, the facebook lady has completely blocked me. Im not sure what i can do legally since i havent had her for 30 days (our state laws say 30 days and you can keep the cat if you make legitimate tries to contact the owner.) i dont have her address, phone number, nothing :( i dont even know how far along she would be. Her mommy obviously doesn't want her.... so should i take it as a voluntary thing on her part? not really sure what to do. any advice please? i just joined the site... my girls are all spayed so im a newbie to this.

I'm having a little trouble following...is this kitty deamed a personal pet by the woman or one of their rescue cats? How long have you had this girl? How long has it been since you had contact with the rescue?

I agree, sounds like she abandoned her. If you know the lady's name maybe ask on the site if anyone knows her and that you are trying to find out if she eventually wants the cat back or not.

She was a personal pet of the woman's. I've had her almost 3 weeks

Wow. I agree that this kitty has been abandoned, especially since you have no contact number for the lady.

I would guess that she is likely 2+ weeks or so away from giving birth.

I think I would file an abandonment charge against the lady with your local animal control. They would also be able to give you guidelines for what your are allowed to do with this kitty, especially with medical care.

This woman blocked you on Facebook. That's a pretty good indicator that she's abandoned this mama-to-be. Frankly I don't see that she has a legitimate claim after that. You don't get to abandon a cat, cut off contact and then change your mind and expect to get the cat back. I hear what you say about your state law and trying to reach an owner for 30 days, but this owner took active steps to sever contact.

Sounds to me like you have a new cat. And that this sweet girl now has a place with someone who cares for her more than her last person did.

I agree with the analysis the cat was de facto AND de jure - dumped. But when you got the cat, you must had physically met, and almost surely exchanged contact info etc??

Anyways, im sending the collection of links re pregnancy and delivery I do have.

Yes we met at a parking lot though :/ I dint grab a number because we kinda left it like "it will only be a month or so, just PM me if you need anything" so Facebook was our only contact. I've just given up the idea that she wants her back so thank you so much for the links! I'm going to bring her in this week for some vet care and to check on her. I will be filing a report for abandonment if I can through the local animal shelter. There is a foster nearby that will help me get the kittens adopted out and their medical care (fixing, deworming, shots, etc.) before they go out. They're very helpful and understanding of the situation :)

She has surely a nice personality, but This is perhaps a hint she hadnt it too good back there.  As part of this nice behavior is probably her doing her outmost to please herself in.  She know its you and your family who are her best practical chance, for her and her children.
