Kimber is a tiny 1.5lb little 11 week old Persian kitten. We rescued Kimber from a lady in Sacramento that had an accidental litter. She sold all of Kimber's 4 brothers and sisters but gave Kimber away because she "didn't want to deal with her issues." When we picked her up she was very very skinny and was being fed a really screwed up diet of adult dry food mixed with cows milk. This was really upsetting her stomach causing her digestive issues. When we got home and further examined her we noticed that she had issue with her "behind." What is supposed to be her butthole protrudes out and was very red and inflamed. We took her to the vet and found out that her girlie area is too close to her pooping area and "if" her butthole was to go back to normal she'd forever have issues with kidney infections and utis unless she had surgery. It's been a few weeks now and after our third trip to the vet and a bunch of money in topical creams and a lot of hard work helping her get her poops out, we've found out that Kimber is missing her anal spinchter. This prevents her from being able to hold in her poos and push them out. Which means that she will have issues pooing her whole life, she won't be able to hold it in or push it out on her own, this will most likely end up in a fatal kidney infection from the poo dripping into her girlie parts. The vet advises that we put her to sleep. Our only other option is to take her to Davis vet school and have her see a specialist surgeon. This will cost a lot of money which unfortunately we don't have. So we're asking for help to save Kimber's life. She is a happy rambunctious little baby and I can't fathom putting her to sleep. If anyone has it in their hearts to help save this little baby we would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Sorry I didn't know this was a strange thing to post on here. I've been posting about my kittens condition for a couple weeks, trying to figure out if anyone else has dealt with something similar. Unfortunately I don't know that many people and really just wanted to save her life [emoji]128533[/emoji] If I can't come up with the money I'll have to put her down and that breaks my heart. I figure if I posted it here maybe a couple animal lovers would help out. I haven't had any luck on Facebook. Sorry. [emoji]128542[/emoji]

I wish I could help, poor sweet kitten. She deserves a good long life! Have you tried a website like giveforward.com?
Thank you for the suggestion I'll look into it! [emoji]128578[/emoji]

Have you called Davis to discuss your situation yet? Is $4,000 the figure they quoted you? How much just to have her looked at and get the specialist's actual diagnosis and opinion? Not the surgery, just to see if he/she concurs and what they recommend doing. It would be a shame to put her down. She's so cute. As long as she is relatively healthy I would see how things go as she grows.

Yes, I talked to Davis the day before yesterday. At first she told me I'd have to see their I think she called it an outpatient Doctor first and then they'd refer me to a inpatient specialist who would then set up the surgery. Fortunately I asked them "what?!? Is that the cheapest way?!?" Lol. We live 3 hours away from Davis so thankfully she told me it was better smarter and cheaper to call my regular vet and have her refer me to them and by doing it that way it saves me a couple initial appointments? I've never had a serious issue like this before so I don't really know the process that well. So I have an appointment with my regular vet so she can refer us to Davis next week. The lady I talked to on the phone was a surgeon I believe. The receptionist told me she was transferring me to surgery. But $4000 was the round about quote for a specialty surgery. I guess its specialty because they basically have to build her a muscle. I just figured it would be hard to get help if any so I figured it would be best to start with the minimum quote we got right away to see if it was even do able at all.

I forgot to address the last part of your post [emoji]9786[/emoji]️[emoji]9786[/emoji]️ I've got my kid and husband talking to me every time I pick up my phone lol. So it's easy to lose my train of thought. She's relatively healthy.. Kinda... Her poop issues are a bit difficult to deal with. Don't get me wrong I'm going to deal with them for as long as I possibly can. But.. Every time she tries to poop she can only sort of get it started and then I have to grab her put on gloves and for lack of being able to describe it better squeeze the poop out for her, and then wash her entire back end off with soap and water and then apply a topical anti fungal and a steroid cream to her butt. It's at least 3-4 times a day. And it's working out okay now because I'm on workmans comp so I'm only working a couple hours a day so she's not really home alone to walk around with poop hanging out of her butt. When it stays in there for any lengthy period of time it gets red chapped and irritated. So when I'm gone for 12+ hrs a day back at work it won't work out so well. Not to mention she completely hates it and screams and cries every time. I've got scratches all over my body from trying to do this. I wrap her up in a towel but she always manages to wiggle her way out. Lol and I don't want her to sleep alone so she has a designated spot on my bed with a towel laid down so she doesn't get poo everywhere but you know how cats are you can't really tell them what to do, so I've been washing my sheets everyday. She also has to wear an e collar all day so she doesn't irritate the area more by licking it, so she's unable to bathe herself very well. I try to take it off as much as possible but she always goes right for the butt. So have to give her a full bath and blow dry once a week! She's a very high maintenance girl! Lol [emoji]128120[/emoji]

Gosh, she's so cute!  I sure hope you can find a way to help her.  I concur with sarthur2.  If you could just speak to one of the vets at Davis they might be able to give you her long term prognosis without the surgery.  Or at least other options.

Kittens do poop frequently, but as they get bigger they poop less often, and eventually, just once a day. You are a saint to be caring for her like this!

You can trim the fur around her rear end to make it easier to clean her. Also, if you add a few drops of olive or vegetable oil to her wet food, it will soften her poop to make it slide out more easily. I'm sure she doesn't understand what you are doing when you have to help her poop. When you do go back to work, you can leave her in a bathroom with food, water, and litter so she doesn't drip poop around the house. Much easier to clean a bathroom.

Another thought: if you submerge her hind quarters in warm water, and massage her anal area underwater, perhaps she will be calmer and the poop will come out more easily. Perhaps you could use a baby tub in your kitchen for this.

You are so sweet to let her sleep with you so she feels comforted. She's just precious, and I'm hoping that maybe the vet school can work with you on a payment plan to get her bottom repaired, if that is indeed a viable solution. It sounds as though you are doing your homework and taking all the necessary steps to get her seen. I do hope it all works out.

I will keep you in my prayers, and do keep us updated in the meantime. Blessings! [emoji]128149[/emoji]

One of my friends found a 2 week old homeless kitten years ago.  He was born with a but hole that was too small his poo kept getting stuck because of it.  They also had to help him poop and they followed the suggestion sarthur2 mentioned and it did help with getting the poo out of his system by making it softer.  They were lucky because her dad stepped in and paid for their kitten's surgery.  Her dad fell in love with the kitten when he was helping them take care of it due to the around the clock care a 2 week old kitten requires.  Dad was taking care of the kitten during the day while they were at work.  Their cat did have surgery to expand his but hole and is now a normal, happy and healthy adult.  I hope you are able to get the funds together for your baby to have surgery.  I wish I could help but I am currently looking at a possible health issue with one of my cats right now so my funds are a little tight.

It's very encouraging to hear that your friend's kitten had a successful anal surgery and is now normal! Thank you for sharing your story. It will give ericabarnes ericabarnes some hope! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I'm hoping you're right about the pooping once a day thing! That's what my husband and I were talking about the other night. He was just saying how it'll probably get much easier when she's older.

Thankfully we've been to the vet once a week since we got her so I had the vet give her a very close shave of her entire back area. I tried doing it myself but she's a talker and she lets you know when she's mad lol, and it breaks my heart when she cries.

I thought about leaving her in the bathroom but I didn't know if that was mean? I guess cats pretty much just sleep all day anyways unlike dogs. Thankfully I have tile floors in my house, so right now I've just been blocking off all of the bedrooms and covering my couch so it's been pretty low maintenance clean up as far as that goes.

Do you have any suggestions on getting her to stay in the water? Lol that's our big problem. I thought after a couple times of doing it maybe she'd get used to it, but she hasn't! Lol my husband and I are all scratched up. I started wrapping her front end up in a towel it doesn't calm her down but it keeps her from tearing us up.

Thank you guys for all of your support and suggestions I really appreciate them! I'm definitely going to try my hardest to keep her alive and well!!

Well not so sure you are going to like what I have to say, but here goes..........

Trust me I don't say this lightly and am actually sitting here just furious.

I am furious because the so-called breeder she came from is overbreeding, this is the cause of her issue.

Stupid "backyard" breeders trying to make money without regard to what they are doing.

Overbreeding is using the same related cats repeatedly, mom and son, siblings, dad and daughter, and now look at this darling little muffin.

I want to report this 'breeder' person, I am 45 mins from Sacramento and have countless cat connects all over.

This is unacceptable.....

UC Davis may be able to correct this, but it's going to be big money, and as far as I know or have ever been told, including myself taking a kitten to them with a very rare issue, and am the founder of a non profit cat rescue group too, they didn't care, they expect full pmt at the time of service, and I personally know some of their doctors there! Dr. Kate Hurley who is UC Davis's director of shelter medicine program, Dr. Lyons, and that didn't help at all, so if anything, you would have to apply for Care Credit.

Technically, and for this sweet baby's future she should be gently euthanized.

I don't say this easily. I am a saver, a rescuer, and always believe in doing everything possible to save their lives.

But the fact here is, unless you have an arm and a leg, and your first born to spend on fixing her, if it's even do-able, she is going to have big time troubles in time, and not that far away either.

I can see her vagina is very close to her rectum, big trouble for constant infections, so this would also need to be moved down if possible.

Not simple that's for sure.

You could put her down now, get her the surgery and hope for the best, or hold off and allow her some time to live and feel love and then when trouble comes, let her go then.

Glad I'm not in your shoes, this is a real heartbreaker here, and I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

Please report this breeder asap, so this stops and never happens again.

If you don't want to please let me know through a private msg and I will.

You were right! Lol I didn't like that one bit, but I can appreciate brutal honesty. Unfortunately everything you said is basically what the vet said as well. I was kinda hoping Davis would be like they are when people have surgery and just bill you. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. I knew it would be expensive though that's why I was hoping to find some financial help here I've already spent hundreds taking her to the vet. As far as the vagina thing the vet said she could do that for a couple hundred bucks no problem. I have a care credit card but it's now maxed out from all of our recent visits. I've even used my mother in laws. I'm hoping that I can at least give her some love and happiness for now. and I'm going to keep her alive as long as she is "healthy" she wasn't from a "breeder" as far as I know it was an accidental litter. We were looking to buy one and found all of her siblings online the lady told us shed sold all the siblings and had one that was messed up left if I wanted her I could take her for free and try to fix her or she was gonna put her down cause she didn't want to deal with he issues. Unfortunately I don't have her phone number or address anymore [emoji]128533[/emoji] Or I'd give it to you. Thank you for your input I really do appreciate your honesty!

Backyard Breeders use the "accidental" litter line all the time sadly. Purebred cats are usually fixed when purchased or it's in the contract that you have to fix them within X amount of days. If you buy a purebred cat with breeding rights, it costs a lot extra. If they buy two cats with breeding rights (OR get two Persians from another Backyard Breeder which is more likely) they can breed them over and over again.

If she was selling the others, it's likely she was a backyard breeder. I bet you'll see more "accidental" litters listed online from her in the near future.

Good luck with your kitty though! Thanks for taking care of her.

Good point! I'm new to the kitty scene! We always had them when I was a kid but they were always strays that adopted us. I've never actually like searched and bought a cat before so this is good to know. My husband isn't a cat fan he's more of a dog person, fortunately he thinks Persians are the cutest things ever. That's how I convinced him to get a cat in the first place, and he's a total animal rescuer. We've had a baby squirrel (that we bought off some kid that was walking around town with it in an old tiny bird cage so we could take care of it til it was big then let it go,) teeny baby birds (someone at my husbands work accidentally chopped up the family and nest that was in one of their machines at work and two babies fell out), and then dogs like millions of dogs lol. So a little cute baby that needed help was right up our alley. But unfortunately it looks like maybe she won't be able to be saved [emoji]128542[/emoji] But now we know for future references who to buy from who not to buy from and who to report!
