I wish I knew what in the world is up with my cats! They keep jumping on my counter and pushing stuff off. They have broken a plate, bowl, 2 glasses and a lamp in just a few days. I am afraid that we are going to get glass in little paws, or worse. I have been trying to keep the area cleaned off, but they are not allowed up there to begin with, and they know it. I know the bowl was pushed down because it had food in it, and Pepe' was trying to run off with it, but the rest could have jut been accidents. I am pretty sure the lamp was. Has anyone else had this problem?

Anastasia is still pretty kitten crazy, even though she's already 6 months old. She's already broken a lot of things and chewed my mom's cell phone's charger's wire in half, and wripped up my homework a couple of times.

Do they have alternate places to get up high? Cat condos that are tall and sturdy are always a good idea Katwallks.com has these great wall mounted ramps they can run off excessive energy on-

There's no place like home
Many years ago I had a group of cats that would knock things off of counters. Since I generally don't leave dishes out (they at least go in the sink or the dishwasher), they didn't break things, just knocked over pens, papers and other stuff that winds up on countertops. The dogs would wait on the floor and chew things up. Max was their ring-leader, so we called this the "Max Factor".

I used duct tape on the edge of the counter, sticky side up, with the ends turned down and taped to the counter. Along with this we made them a tall cat condo as an alternative. The behavior stopped pretty quickly.

Yes, they have a 7 foot cat tree, plenty of toys, and run of the entire house, except the counters and tables. Pepe' is the ususal suspect, but my s/o saw Fred push the lamp down to make a spot to lay down. Georgia has done her share. Pearl is the only one that doesn't go where she isn't allowed. I have tried citrus, in the form of a little lemon juice, just in case one of them got it on themselves, and Pepe' lapped it up like it was a treat. I'll try the tape next. Thanks for the suggestions, and if anyone else has any, please feel free to post them, I am running out of dishes!

Some years ago our dearly departed Siamese, an utter charmer in all other respects, would do this when she became upset with us. It was no accident; it was no coincidence. If Ann or I did something she did not appreciate she would jump up on a counter, table, dresser, mantelpiece, bookshelf, or what have you, patiently wait until she got our attention, look us squarely into the eye, reach out a paw, knock a "nicknack" off, and sit back with a smug look on her face. It got to the point where after we did something which did not comport with her desires we could actually predict her action. To tell the truth, it was rather cute, after Ann put her breakable treasures away, that is, and we could amuse visitors by intentionally triggering her predictable reaction.

That's almost the exact situation with me. Anastasia has a cat tree and about a million toys, lots of places to climb on (where there's nothing to break), and more. I think she likes the commotion after she breaks something. My dad even tried giving her a time out, where he would lock her in the bathroom for about 15 minutes after she broke something. Didn't work.
I'll have to try the tape suggestion too.

IA. If you need me, just meow..
Holy Moly, you mean the cats AREN'T supposed to break things!?

Twig my tabby will wait until we are asleep and then in the wee hours of the AM he will jump on my s/o's niht table and if he has a glass, pop can anything on there that Twig can knock over, he will slowly push against it with his paw so that you can hear it moving, and before I can get the words"honey Twig is knocking your pop over" out, it is on the floor, full or empty, if he can move it, he does. To fix that problem we put a HUGE towel right in front of his night table so it'll soak up anything Twig knocks over. Now Tiwg's taken up knocking over the garbage since we don't wake up when he knocks the cups over, unfrotunately we haven't found anything to stop him from doing that other then putting it on my jewelery box
(Yuck!) it's just his wake up and feed me thing, I guess.
