I just talked with a rep on their chat  She wasn't able to give me the information then, but said they would have someone email me in 10-14 days. I asked if I could have the full dry matter analysis in that case :) So I will let you guys know once I get that info.

Haha, they said cats chose the combinations. I would have liked to have seen the feeding trials---"hey, try some lamb chunks with clam sauce on it!". . .lol. Looks like something Scotty would like, although I don't get the gravy kind very often.

I'm in the process of trying to establish a rotation, the majority of which will be Friskies and Fancy Feast (with the good stuff once or twice a week). Stupid money getting in the way of good food. Anyway, depending on what they say about the phosphorus levels, I may add this to the rotation for the community food.

Which 3 do they like?
They like  Turkey & Giblets Pate   , Liver & Chicken Pate  , Mixed Grill Pate  . They both eat  a 1/2 can twice a day with a sprinkle of kibble on top . They would never eat Friskies before I fed them Special Kitty which they liked but after doing some research I decide not to feed it anymore . So I tried Friskies again and they love it . Have been eating it for weeks now .

I do not agree that this is a good food or a sufficient food for any cat or animal. If your cats are picky and they eat it, then awesome. But if your cats will eat other stuff, then by all means give them the other stuff.

What's wrong with it?
Have you read the ingredients list? If it doesn't contain a source of meat/meat protein in the first 3 to 5 ingredients, contains corn (or any form of corn), contains "by-product meal" and a few other things, it is not good nor healthy.

The canned foods do not contain corn or by-product meal, and meat is the first or second (after water) ingredient. Canned foods in general are higher quality than the dry food of the same brand.

I'm aware that Friskies is not the highest quality canned food available (though not terrible either), but I prefer a detailed discussion of the pros and cons of various ingredients instead of knee-jerk "ugh" reactions.

Really? Then you must have not read the ingredients list on the website or on the label.

For CatConcoctions Cod and Cheesy Bacon flavor:

Ingredients

Water sufficient for processing, chicken, liver, meat by-products, wheat gluten, soy flour, cod, corn starch-modified, artificial and natural flavors, tricalcium phosphate, added color, potassium chloride, taurine, cheese and bacon flavor, spice and coloring, salt, choline chloride, thiamine mononitrate, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, niacin, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), copper sulfate, manganese sulfate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, xanthan gum, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, potassium iodide. A-6011

For Classic Poultry Pate (this has TWO sources of by-products):

Ingredients

Turkey, poultry by-products, water sufficient for processing, meat by-products, liver, fish, rice, artificial and natural flavors, guar gum, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, carrageenan, magnesium sulfate, calcium phosphate, taurine, thiamine mononitrate, zinc sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, niacin, copper sulfate, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A supplement, manganese sulfate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, potassium iodide. B-6057

My experience with my cats and with Friskies was terrible. My cats were very overweight, lethargic, it messed with their tummies and their coats were very dull and dry. Friskies and most of the Purina brand foods are lower quality foods, not matter if it's dry or wet. I switched my cats to a higher quality food and they lost weight and went down to a healthy weight, they were more active and running around instead of sleeping ALL of the time, their tummies got better (less vomiting, less diarrhea, better smelling pees and poops), their coats because softer and shinier, etc...

Contrary to what Purina claims, by-products are not a source of nutrition or protein. The ONLY good by-product is when it says it is labeled as "Organ by-product" as this is from the stomach, and not the left-overs used after all the edible animal parts are used. In the wild, the stomach is the place that animals go to first, then they will move to muscle tissue.  I've found this website's article to be highly educating.

I also prefer to have discussions with people who are knowledgeable about the food that they are feeding to their animals and read labels before making assumptions about the food or the person trying to educate them.

Folks making a blanket statement that any brand is "terrible" is the reason people will feed their cats dry food over canned. People say Fancy Feast is crap but when I brought up a specific one, people thought it was a pretty decent food, better than some of the ones they've seen out there that are more expensive. Some of the "better foods" out there that some folks have talked about have more carbs than the "crap" foods do. Plus, not everyone can afford the prices of the "higher quality" foods. And please don't say something like, "If that is all you can afford" because that sounds insulting.

By-products just don't bother me that much. I'm sure cats don't just go only for the "good meat" when they eat up mice or rabbits or anything else they'd eat in the wild. I'll never forget the sound of my friend's cat crunching on the head of a mouse *shudder*. And my mom had a cat that ate a bird she had. It left one part of one foot and a feather.

I agree if there are specifics you don't like, call those out. Just because your cats didn't do well on a certain brand though doesn't mean that is the case for everyone. My cats have had it for years and have done well on it. AND on Fancy Feast.

I agree. My cats are VERY picky eaters and I keep a wide variety of foods in their rotation from high end to the less expensive choices like Friskies and Fancy Feast and they are doing great. with the latter 2 brands, I stick to the poultry based pates. I found these new Friskies at Target the other day. Not all of them. The one in the yellow can (if memory serves, that's the pate) and the one in the green can. I got one of each. I'm hoping they like the pate one better but knowing them, they might not like either. Since they are so picky, I usually will split a can of Friskies pate between them and then add some of a 3 oz can of Pride by Instinct duck, rabbit or lamb or Wellness cubed turkey on top of each dish to mix flavors and textures.

Their favorite of the Friskies is the turkey and giblets and they like most of the poultry based FF classics. When they are being really fussy (especially Lilith who is very, very picky), I bust out some of the FF turkey for kittens. They all love it. I keep a stash of it "for emergencies"

@Kat0121 - sounds like you make your own "concoctions" :lol3:

I've started adding other foods to a rotation as well. The only reason for this is the Friskies (at least the ones we usually give them) is pretty high in phosphorus, so that won't work well with my CKD kitty as far as the "community" food goes. Once or twice a week ok, but not every day. Unfortunately, even a good chunk of the better-quality foods are high in phosphorus and VERY high in protein (trying to keep it at ~50% for Sara). I can give the other kitties the higher protein/ higher phos stuff in the morning, but still need to consider the community food that they all eat at night.

However, I am on a budget, so need to opt more for Friskies and Fancy Feast going forward I think, but if something is on sale on Chewy I'll definitely go for it! I have a bunch of higher quality stuff I got, I'm just rotating it in with the Friskies now. They LOVE the Friskies!
