I have a question to ask about the Fancy Feast Flaked line of foods. I'm not asking for anything regarding the quality of this brand as a whole, I already know it's not the best out there, but curious about this particular line.
I AM on a budget when it comes to cat food, and while I can have a couple of "good" foods in there, they cannot be the MAIN foods. So I've been looking into the less-expensive foods to see if there are better options, particularly for my non-CKD kitties. I feed Sara in the bathroom in the morning, and she stays in there for awhile, so I don't have to worry about her going after the others' food bowls and eating it.
Anyway, back to the Flaked stuff. I've noticed this particular line is rather high in protein. The Seafood and Shrimp one is 80% protein! I would love to be able to give higher-protein to my non-CKD kitties. But the downside is it's very high in phosphorus. I don't think this is a problem for healthy kitties, but I've just become so averse to phosphorus because of having two CKD kitties in recent months that my brain automatically recoils at seeing 2.5% phosphorus.
So are there any thoughts from anyone regarding the Flaked varieties? I would only be giving it once or twice a week, so it is a bit more of a supplemental thing to my other foods. I'm not even sure if my cats would like it, but I want to buy a couple of cans today just to see.
