Hi I have recently adopted a rescue kitten about 11weeks old. She hides In small spaces, she will won't come out by trying to play but she does let me pick her up and put her on my knee and she quickly starts purring will lick me and sleep on me but if I move away and she is no longer on of next to me she runs and hides again. She is affectionate with me but I was wondering how to get her to be more willing to explore the enviroment. She is currently just in my quiet bedroom but is still anxious and unwilling to look around the room

How recently did you bring her home? Some cats will make themselves right at home, but some need some time to get used to the transition. When my boyfriend's mom got her cat, she found a hole in the wall and hid there for three days! It's good that she's affectionate with you, I'd guess that she just needs some more time. :) Have you tried confining her to one room? She might adjust a little quicker if she starts out in a smaller space.

Interesting.  Its common rescue kitties are afraid fo the adopter.  Here it seems to be vice versa. YOU seems to be her safety point, its with you she feels secure.

But hides and is afraid, when she must be alone...

Probably she is missing her mom and siblings, feels abandoned, alone, unsecure, threatened.   And you are the least bad in there... So to you she sticks...

Thus, work  with her feels of security, feeling of wellbeing. The rest will come by itself.

Proceed with having her in your quiet bedroom, let her feel comfortable with it, let it be her safety zone...

You could also put her in a large dog training crate (those wire cages), large enough that it can house a litter box and a carrier. It´s good to use a carrier for a "bedroom" and hiding space, that way you´ll never have issues when the cat has to go on a trip.

Place the kennel in the living room, so kitty can get used to all the noises and still have a safe hiding place (ther carrier). Take her out frequently for petting sessions. Also have other family members pet her, so she gets used to them too. You can try to lure her out of the carrier with dangling toys that you lower through the top of the cage. That way she can play and still be close to her safe carrier.

Once she is all comfy, you can open the cage door. This way she can explore on her own terms (maybe at night first) and return to her carrier for safety any time.
