While perusing the cat food isle at Petsmart today I found Natural Balance Wild Pursuit for a reasonable price (also they have a petperks offer on now wherein you save 7$ on the large bag). I checked the ingredients and it suited what I was looking for. It's labeled as a high protein, grain free dry food with freeze dried raw liver bits. So I bought it to try out since Sansa is so against eating her Merricks grain free as of late (I must mention that I have been unlucky in finding Merricks regular chicken recipe so I have been buying the low cal one.. Not as popular with my Sansy).

Anyway, what are your thoughts or experiences with ND Wild Pursuit? Or the (seemingly marketable) addition of freeze dried raw?

Both cats gobbled up their afternoon sample.

Thanks.

It looks mediocre to me. When i look at the ingredients online of the chicken version it has peas as the 4th ingredient and then several more veggies, which isn't great. The trout one is even worse peas are the third ingredient. I don't know where the freeze dried raw is in that ingredients list because I don't see it.

Thanks. I guessed the addition the free dried pieces was a marketing thing in response to the popular notion of feeding raw these days. Chicken liver is the freeze dried pieces by the way, though the list does not list it as such. How is Natural Balance as a brand though? I have read great reviews but I did not like half their labels for their other foods.

I think on the whole Natural Balance's kibble is mediocre and full of veggies and fillers. I don't really trust good reviews by people that say "my cats love this food!" because that really means nothing. Cats also love friskies kibble and other foods that are extremely low quality. The only dry food i recommend is basically off this site. Although I only use Orijen and Ziwipeak air dried.

I'm of the mindset that if you're going to feed kibble you need to feed high quality, otherwise just feed wet because you can get away with feeding lower quality wet food without giving your cat a lot of unnecessary fillers.
