I was wondering if any of you struggled with weight loss for you kitties, and if so any advice? My 6 year old Rudy was born with a malformation of the front left leg, and only walks on 3. Its KEY that he is slim, it put less stress on his joints and his heart which has to work just a little bit harder.

He's by no means obese, just slightly overweight, I'd like him to lose MAYBE 3 pounds max. He does free feed but the amount he's given is controlled, and I'm thinking of scaling it back just a little bit. The trouble is he's not terribly active, even when he plays he's lazy about it. He mostly played with his brother. Even when he drinks water he lays down. I'm currently feeding Wellness weight management, dry only. If anyone has any advice I'd certainly appreciate it.

Also, I can't another forum more fitting for this topic, so if I should post elsewhere, please let me know!

The easiest way I have found is feeding an all wet food (canned or raw) diet. Cats are obligate carnivores and need very very few carbohydrates. I have one kitty who was getting very round and prior to this past June all my cats were fed 95% dry food.

I made the switch after doing some research because one of my cats was severely constipated and required hospitalization. My chubby girl slimmed down without doing anything else. I use pate style, grain free and rotate between several brands.

Thank you! I'll put some research into that! My only fear with my Rudy is he's such a nibbler, he takes his sweet time eating and I'm afraid the wet food will dry out. I'll start researching some options for wet/raw stuff right away.
