Good morning!
 And Happy Friday!

This question is for those who work full time (not at home): What time do you have to be at your job? And what time do you get there?

Rick and I get out of bed at 4:45 (it keeps getting earlier!). He has to be to work at 6:45.

Our normal office hours are 8:30 to 4:30. Right after I started here, I asked if I could work from 8 to 4. That actually opened the office 30 minutes earlier, so naturally, my boss was willing. I've gotten to the point, though, where most of the time, I am here at 7. I do a lot of graphics stuff for my job and that extra hour can be a god-send sometimes. Plus, when I'm the only one here, it's wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The "hens" usually start traipsing in around 7:45 and boy, does it ever get noisy then. I'm thankful for that 45 minutes or so of peace. And even though I technically don't start until 8, if the phone rings before 8, I will answer it. If somebody comes in to drop off plans, I'll help them. The problem is that people have started to realize that I'm usually here early and they count on me now to be here. When I'm not, it's like the world has come to an end!

I work from home 90% of the time, so all I have to do is stumble downstairs and turn the computer on. Weekends are the busiest, I usually do 10 am to 6 pm with a half hour lunch break, if I'm lucky. Weekdays I don't start until 5 pm.

I'm really not a morning person. I can't imagine what 4.45 am looks like.

Work is pretty flexible with times but I prefer to get in around 6am so I can leave around 2:30pm. That gives me the afternoon for doctor appointments, errands to the bank or post office before they close, etc. On weekends I usually have to stay until 4pm. I get up at 4am and leave the house just after 5am to walk the 20 minutes (with a flashlight since it's dark out and street lights are pretty much non existent) to the bus stop.

Other people on my team trickle in between 7am and 8am and stay until 3pm or 4pm.

Normal starting time is 8 a.m., but I'm there any time between 6:30 and 7:10 to take the two senior dogs for a walk. Their bladders aren't what they used to be. Mogli has me up early, so the dogs might as well benefit. There aren't any bottle babies at the moment, but I was going in very early to feed kittens most of the summer.

9 AM every day unless we have no appointments. I have the good fortune of working for a small business, so we don't work unless there IS work.

I'm pretty lucky, I happen to have Fridays (and Mondays!) off. The one thing I like about retail: I got to pick my days off!
I generally work evenings (early afternoon until close), but my schedule varies a lot. I start anywhere between 1 and 4.
Got my high hopes for a real 9-5 though! (I don't know why people say 9-5, aren't most of them actually 8-4? :lol3:)

I'm RETIRED!!!
However, for most of my working life, I worked either second or third shift, so I went in at 3 or 4 pm or 10, 11, or 12 pm, depending on the company,  I did once work a swing shift, and went in at 12 noon.  And I've worked one 12 hour shift, alternating noon-mn and mn-noon, 4 on, 3 off, 3 on, 4 off.  That was wild.

Likewise. Sometimes I don't get out of bed until 5 minutes before I'm scheduled to start work. It's glorious.

Of course, I've suffered through the complete opposite, which is commuting to Manhattan from Westchester every day. Up at 6:30, onto the Metro North for 45 minutes, arrive at Grand Central, take the S (shuttle) line to the Times Square station, then another subway to 34th St., and a two-block walk to my office. I know some people who live further north -- places like Putnam, Dutchess and Ulster counties -- and commute to Manhattan every day for work. That is brutal. We're talking 4 hours commuting per day.

I've always liked working at night, it's usually a much more relaxed atmosphere than the day grind, and you usually meet all sorts of characters you wouldn't meet during daylight hours.

I'm retired but when I worked, I was able to pick my own schedule. Mostly I worked 12:00 to 8:30pm because I couldn't get to sleep until 3:00 - 4:00am so needed to sleep late. I liked having the place to myself but did miss having companionship sometimes.

Normal office hours are 8 -5, but they are flexible. I have been going in around 7 and leaving around 4 for a long time. Most of my bosses that I've worked for are early birds, so I've adjusted too. I prefer it, because I'm more of a morning person and by afternoon I'm ready to get going.

I'm retired now but when I worked I got up at 4 am and I had to be at work at 8:30 am and I would get off at 4:15  pm and get home at 6:00 pm. I live in MD but I worked in DC and traffic was a bear.

I think the only shifts I've never worked was a flat-out overnight shift. But I've worked 4:30am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, "normal" shifts, etc.

I work in IT now and my scheduled is determined by the workload and the meetings on my calendar. I'm horrible about getting in "on time" (the concept of which is subjective really) but I get to the office about 9:30-9:45am, unless I have meetings earlier in the day. I leave generally any time between 4:30-5:30pm. Some days I'll work just 7 hours, other days I'll work 12 hours. During test execution for my August projects (the testing of which was going on in late June into early July) I was often there about 8 in the morning and working until 7-8 at night. There was that one day where I went into work at 6am because I woke up at 2:30am and couldn't go back to sleep, so just went to work, thinking I'd leave early. I ended up leaving 14 hours later.

I work from home quite a bit also. Pretty much whenever I need or want to. It's a pretty sweet perk sometimes.

When I work code pushes, the shift times are funny. I usually work second shift, which is "9:00am - ??" because we really have no idea what time we'll be done. Sometimes we're done at 2pm, if everything goes well. If not, folks may be there well into the next day. I think the longest I was there was from 8am (almost always get there early for code pushes) and ended up staying till 11:30pm.

When I worked at a paper plant, I worked a 7-day swing-shirt. I never got used to it. It was a reverse rotation and "experts" say you should never work that kind of rotation, but that's what management wanted.

Third: 11 p to 7 a (Tuesday night to the following Tuesday morning at 7)

Second 3 p to 11 p (Thursday afternoon to the following Wednesday night at 11)

First: 7 a to 3 p (Saturday morning to the following Friday afternoon at 3)

So we only really got one actual weekend off in a month's time and we worked all holidays, except for July 4th, Labor Day, and Christmas Day. I did it for 18 years and now, I honestly don't know how I ever worked that way. I much prefer the job I have now and, even though I've worked in Planning for almost 15 years, I am still completely amazed (and grateful) that I get holidays where I'm actually off work. It still boggles my mind!

I get up around 5 or 530 am to start feeding and medicating the cats and I usually have to be at work at 7. I usually get to go home around 4pm.

i'm retired. when i was working, i worked different shifts or had different times i needed to be at work, depending on the job.

the shift that pretty much permanently altered my body's concept of sleep (how much it needed, and when to sleep) was the graveyard shift, 11pm to 7am.

Work is from 9-6 but I usually get there before 8:30. The long commute into NYC is less stressful if I leave earlier and I like that quieter half hour to organize myself.

It's a long day though. I leave at 6:30 am and typically get home around 7ish.
