So I went to the pet store and accidentally bought adult cat food for my 12-13 week old kitten, do you think its okay for me to feed him this food until it finishes and switch back to kitten food?

No he needs kitten food it is formulated differently. Some places lets you return the food call and find out the return policy there.

At that age he needs kitten food or food marked 'for all life stages'. Adult cat food simply doesn't have enough calories for such a young boy. Check the use by on the adult food - you may be able to keep it for use when he's older.

Kittens need to be on Kitten food for the first year. They need all the essential nutrition it provides for proper development and growth. Also, changing food brands/types needs to be done very gradually over a weeks time to avoid digestive problems.

If you are unable to return the food (for what ever reason) donate it to a shelter and know it went to good use. I wouldn't risk trying to store the food for another 9 months when he will be old enough for adult food.

If the adult food is labled as formulated "for all alife stages" (read the tiny print on the package, usually the back near the feeding insructions), then it's fine to feed to a kitten. You would just need to feed more of it to provide enough calories and vitamins and minerals a growing kitten needs. If you want to be safe, head back to the store and exchange the bag (if it's unopened) for kitten dry food. Or buy kitten canned food and feed mainly that but supplement with some of the adult dry.

There's a recent post from someone asking for kitten foods: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/312564/best-kitten-food

I guess it depends. My Aby was weaned right onto commercial raw food and grew up just fine and healthy
I did not supplement with any kitten specific food. Some raw feeders may supplement kittens with extra stuff, though.
