My cat often sneaks into the bedroom in the middle of the night and sleeps on the end of the bed. This is not normally a problem. However when he got up this morning I noticed about three long white roundworms on his tail and another two on my duvet cover!!! They were definitely roundworms and not tapeworms. I immediately treated him with a worming tablet but not before he had walked into my sons bedroom. Obviously I have removed the duvet from the bed and replaced it with our spare one but as my washing machine isn't big enough for a large duvet I'm going to have to take it to the laundrette for washing. What I would like to know though is how much of a risk is it to myself and my family that he has 'shed' these worms in the house? How easily can we be contaminated? I'm assuming it was only on my bed but the cat was asleep on the back of the sofa when we went to bed. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

Thank you mrs green jeans. Hopefully all will be well. I must remember to worm him more often as he has quite a fancy for small rodents and that's probably where he got them from in the first place.
As long as everyone practices good hygiene when cleaning up the litter box, and your cat doesn't potty in any sandboxes where children play, things should be okay.   Here's an article about cat to human transmission  http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1774&aid=1032

(that IS kind of creepy - :shocker: )

Also remember that you have to worm your cat two or three times, two or three weeks apart to kill all of the worms.
