Random Act Of Kindness

This morning, I was in the drive-thru line at Dunkin Donuts. I had ordered two sour cream glazed donuts, one for me and one for a co-worker. When I got to the Pay/Pick-up Window, the guy said, "The man in the car in front of you paid for your donuts!" Now how cool was that??

So I paid the bill for the person behind me! Wonder how long it kept going....

That's very cool! Around Christmas I guess this was a regular thing at one of the DD's in my town. I heard at one point the "chain" got up to 39 people. :D

I have heard of that happening, usually at doughnut places.  It occasionally happens at places like McDonald's but usually at doughnut places.  It probably doesn't last very long at other places because a larger order stops the chain.

What a great way to start the day. We finished eating in a restaurant once, went to pay the bill and somebody had already done it for us. I try to pass along little things like that. I recently was in Belk Dept. store with some coupons that I didn't use. I passed them to a lady at the cash register who had a basket full of things to buy. She was very appreciative.

I do that all the time with coupons I'm not using. I was in Petco recently buying cat food using coupons and Pals rewards I had. I also had a coupon for 20% off anything other than food. I wasn't going to use it. I don't buy litter from them unless it was on sale. I gave it to an older couple who had a cart loaded with Yesterday's News litter. They were very happy to have it. They were visiting from out of town and they had a hard time finding that litter near them so when they find it, they stock up.

This happened to me once at a Starbuck's drive through - I only ordered one coffee though, so the nice guy who paid my bill was only out $4 and some change - the folks behind me had almost a $20 order, so I was a scrooge and didn't pay their bill

I was in line at the grocery store one day.  A young woman was about $5 dollars short, and trying to decide what to put back, and obviously needed all of it.  She was nearly in tears.  Baby food, a few cans of soup, some bread...real subsistance shopping.  Suddenly the gentleman in front of me (immediately behind her) said, "Hey, just add her stuff on with mine.  I've got this."  She was so overcome, and he just told her, "One day, you'll have money and someone else won't.  Remember this on that day."

We did that when we were in Maryland back in December. We were at a Walgreen's and they gave us a coupon that could be used the next day. Well, we weren't going to be there the next day and there are no Walgreen stores in our area. So I gave the coupon to the woman behind us. You would have thought I gave her gold.

One time, years ago, Rick and I were having breakfast at Perkins. There were these two elderly ladies having breakfast and you could just tell they enjoyed their breakfast. And they were all smiles and giggling like two school girls. They said they didn't get out to breakfast that often and they just loved a good breakfast. Rick looked at me and I nodded my head. We paid for their breakfast while we were paying for our own. Didn't tell them; we just left.

I have done that twice.  I only do it when someone is struggling with a small order of essentials.  I won't do it when someone has things like alcohol, soda and junk food, they can put something back and be the better for it.

In MN a radio station here challenges the listeners to do it on Fridays and leave a short. Note to let them know some one cares. Than people call in and tell there stories of getting free food. It is amazing some of the drive through stories you hear. I think it Incourages a lot of us to do it more.

One of the other tenants in my apartment building lost her job and is going through a rough time. Around here you can get help with food, and health items.

So I bought her a bag of food for her cat, some litter, treats and a little bag of catnip. And I picked up some bird food for her parakeet. I just left them all by her door, without my name attached.

And I bought her a 12 pk of her favorite soda to spoil her a little.

You should have seen Comet when I was carrying all this cat stuff out the door. He thought I was robbing him or something. Jealous kitty!

I guess I was on a roll with these acts the past few day. I was at the grocery store and I wasn't collecting the "stickers" to get the free dishes, so I offered them to the woman behind me. She almost started crying. :dk: There was a guy in front of me at Kohls that had forgotten his %off coupon. I offered to let him use mine. He offered me a discount on a used car. :lol3: Our waitress when we went out to eat on Saturday mentioned that it was her birthday the next day, so we left her an extra good tip. I was starting to write a note that said "Happy Birthday", but she came back by so we handed it to her. She started crying and we got hugs. :)
