Hello. My cat just became a mommy since the 3rd of January. When we took her in, she was already pregnant and I've read somewhere on the internet that I shouldn't deworm or get her vaccinated when she's pregnant. So now that she has given birth, when can I take her to the vet to do a health check uo and get her dewormed and vaccinated? I understand that I have to wait till her kittens are eight weeks then I can get her spayed. Is it the same case?

She can actually be vaccinated, dewormed and spayed at the same time, unless you feel she needs deworming now.

I do not recommend she be vaccinated until her spay, it's not actually harmful but can interfere with the maternal antibodies that mom is giving her babies for temporary protection.

It is critical that she not be allowed outdoor access until after her spay.

Technically she can be spayed sooner then when kittens are 8 weeks, and I would recommend she be done if she does get outside.

She can continue to nurse babies afterwards, but some will return from spay and want to skip a day or so before resuming, tender, etc.

So in case, it's best to be able to hold off until kittens are stable, at least 3-4 weeks old.

As for mom's care now, be sure she has lots of fresh clean water always, it's amazing how much extra she will need to produce plenty of milk for the kids, as well as canned pate food at least daily, and dry available always.

This also will teach the babies how to eat, by watching her and getting curious to try it too.

This happens about 3 1/2-4 wks old.

Good luck!
